As the Chongyang Festival approaches, an event on a bite of intangible cultural heritage in Autumn took place at the Guangzhou Cultural Center on October 22, featuring a delightful array of intangible culinary heritage, such as Guangzhou-style shumai, dowry cakes, Cantonese chicken biscuits (ga jai beng), sweetheart cake, Guangzhou-style beef offal, and Zengcheng lychee distillate. These mouthwatering culinary traditions delighted residents and visitors with a grand autumn feast.

The Chongyang Festival, known for its tradition of gatherings and feasting on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, came alive at the event.

In the morning, the event transformed into a vibrant food heritage fair, where visitors immersed themselves in the tastes of the Lingnan region and gained insights into its rich culture.

In the "Cantonese Flavor Experience Zone", a wide variety of Guangzhou delicacies took center stage. Visitors observed the meticulous craftsmanship of dishes and sampled these time-honored flavors. The classic Lingnan dishes tantalized the taste buds of all attendees, rekindling fond memories.

Creative photo spots, including the "Nostalgic Photo Studio" and "Return to Childhood", bridged the gap between memories and current life, giving intangible heritage a fresh, contemporary touch.

An "Edutainment Station" allowed participants to get hands-on experience in making Guangzhou-style shumai, bringing the art of shumai closer to the public and enhancing awareness of Lingnan food heritage.

In the afternoon, the Guangzhou Cultural Center hosted the "Foreseeing the Cantonese Flavor: Lingnan Intangible Culinary Heritage Exchange Salon", where several intangible cultural heritage researchers, culinary experts, and heritage inheritors came together to discuss the "development paths of intangible culinary heritage."

As an integral part of Lingnan culture, culinary heritage holds significant importance in the overall cultural branding of the city. The experts at the event proposed ingeniously integrating culinary heritage into cultural tourism routes. This approach would combine Lingnan cultural resources and elements with the development and spiritual needs of residents, linking intangible culinary heritage with communities and public spaces for mutual growth.

One expert suggested adopting the marketing model of Yunnan's "Flower Cake" and establishing sales points for Guangzhou-style cuisine at airports, train stations, and major subway stations. This strategy aims to make intangible culinary heritage a captivating hallmark of Guangzhou for both locals and visitors.
