On October 8th, China State Railway Group (hereinafter referred to as "China Railway") announced that the Guizhou-Guangzhou High-Speed Rail is set to operate at a maximum speed of 300 kilometers per hour from October 11th. This exciting news comes along with an increase in train frequencies, promising shorter travel times for passengers connecting major cities in the southwest region, including Guilin, Guiyang, Chengdu, Chongqing, Kunming, to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong.
The Guizhou-Guangzhou High-Speed Rail is a crucial rail artery connecting the southwest and south regions of China. It plays a pivotal role in the "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed rail network, connecting Lanzhou (Xining) to Guangzhou. The Guangzhou section from Guiyang East to Guangzhou South spans a total length of 857 kilometers and has been in operation since December 26th, 2014, at a maximum speed of 250 kilometers per hour.
With a focus on enhancing the quality of high-speed rail services and improving the overall travel experience for the people, the China Railway initiated the Guizhou-Guangzhou High-Speed Rail Improvement Project in December 2022.
Following the implementation of the new maximum speed of 300 kilometers per hour, the railway authorities will schedule 177 daily EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) trains and 12 peak-hour trains on the Guizhou-Guangzhou High-Speed Rail, further reducing travel times between southwest regions and the Greater Bay Area.
The shortest travel times between Guiyang East and Guangzhou South will be reduced to 3 hours and 39 minutes, and between Guilin North and Guangzhou South to just 1 hour and 59 minutes. For trains crossing lines between Chengdu East, Chongqing West, and Guangzhou South, travel times will be shortened to 6 hours and 56 minutes and 5 hours and 43 minutes, respectively, representing time savings of 46 and 54 minutes.
The improvement of the Guizhou-Guangzhou High-Speed Rail will significantly enhance its transportation capacity and efficiency, fostering closer economic and social ties between the southwest and south regions of China. It will also contribute to the development of the Greater Bay Area and further boost the growth of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle. This milestone holds tremendous importance for the future connectivity and prosperity of these regions.
