As autumn sets in, Mao Junqi, a doctoral student from the School of Environment and Energy at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, relishes his bicycle commutes to class. Similar to the previous spring semester, he has enrolled in two courses this autumn: Design Thinking and Practice, taught by Professor Nie Xiaomei from Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, and Geographical Statistical Models and Methods, instructed by Professor Tang Junqing from the School of Urban Planning and Design at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School. During the last semester, Mao Junqi greatly benefited from Professor Nie Xiaomei's course on the Appreciation of Chinese and Foreign Art.
In the new autumn semester, the course selection and credit recognition system in Shenzhen has once again undergone upgrades, offering a total of 148 courses for students to choose from across 17 local universities and institutions. Compared to previous years, both the number of participating universities and the scope of available courses have expanded. Currently, 17 institutions provide cross-campus course selection opportunities, including Shenzhen University, Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen Technology University, and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Shenzhen). Notably, institutions like Shenzhen University, Southern University of Science and Technology, and Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) have successfully implemented credit recognition.
In the collaborative framework of sharing distinctive and advantageous courses across various institutions, cross-campus courses not only showcase the unique characteristics of each institution, but also harness the expertise of a cadre of high-calibre educators, including nationally and provincially recognized high-quality courses. With the inclusion of X Institute and Shenzhen Institute of Science and Technology, this initiative introduces innovative and high-quality courses to the program. Furthermore, to facilitate the convergence of vocational and general education, Shenzhen's higher vocational colleges have also become part of the cross-campus selection program. This expansion not only enhances the diversity of course offerings, but also presents opportunities for students to attain vocational qualifications, thereby enabling them to expand their prospects.
"Confidently visiting friends at other campuses, savoring the dining halls of various universities within a day..." Cross-campus course selection not only innovatively offers "academic freedom", but also provides an "equitable" experience with shared cafeterias, libraries, and sports facilities, fostering a genuine sense of cultural exchange among the universities and institutions in Shenzhen.
