#TheGreatBeautyofGuangdong The Winter Solstice staged a comeback at 5:48 p.m. on December 22, 2022. On this day, the sun shines directly on the South Tropic of Cancer and the day is the shortest and the night becomes the longest in the northern hemisphere.
The Winter Solstice is an important winter festival in China, and it is celebrated as much as the Chinese New Year when families in north China eat dumplings to celebrate, and in Guangdong, there is a proverb that says "The Winter Solstice is even more solemn than the Spring Festival". It is also customary to eat Tangyuan(Chinese glutinousrice balls) together with family members in south China, signifying family reunions.
In fact, eating Tangyuan is just an example. All over Lingnan, different kinds of Winter Solstice delicacies are brought to the dining table, not least Winter glutinous rice dumplings, Glutinous rice balls with chrysanthemum petal, Glutinous rice with preserved flavor, and mutton boiled in wine.
No matter what they are eating, people may just be fond of the same taste - the feeling of reunion and unforgettable happiness with families.
