On October 21, the Guangdong (Yangjiang) International Wind Power City Plan was approved by an expert panel, according to Yangjiang municipal government. Yangjiang, a coastal city in western Guangdong, plans to build China's first wind power city, which will become an important platform to further optimize Guangdong's energy production and consumption structure.

In a move to honor its climate commitment and further propel the building of an ecological civilization, China unveiled a master working guideline on October 24 that aims to elevate energy efficiency to an advanced international level and lift non-fossil energy consumption to over 80 percent of the whole by 2060. The country is "firmly committed to a green, low-carbon and high-quality development path that gives primacy to ecological civilization", the guideline said.

In this context, fully relying on Yangjiang's abundant offshore wind power resources to build a wind power city is of great importance for Guangdong to implement the new national energy security strategy and improve China's high-end wind power equipment manufacturing level and technological innovation capabilities.

With superior geographical conditions and rich wind power resources, Yangjiang has a national new energy base, Guangdong's only offshore wind power full industry chain base, and Guangdong Laboratory of Advanced Energy Science and Technology Yangjiang Sub-center (also known as Yangjiang Offshore Wind Power Laboratory), which give Yangjiang irreplaceable advantages in the layout and construction of an international wind power city.

According to the plan, Guangdong (Yangjiang) International Wind Power City will accelerate the coordination and in-depth integration of the wind power industry and urban space, and build a world-class offshore wind power entire industry chain ecosystem base to promote Yangjiang's wind power industry to the mid-to-high end level of the world.
