On October 22nd, the 2026 China Marine Economy Expo (CMEE), themed "Digital & Smart Ocean: Co-creating A Sustainable Future," opened at the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center. Running for three days, this year's expo spans a total exhibition area of approximately 50,000 square meters, attracting more than 350 participating organizations from home and abroad.

As China's leading province in the marine economy, Guangdong recorded a gross ocean product (GOP) of 2.04 trillion yuan in 2025, accounting for roughly one-fifth of the national total and ranking first nationwide for the 31st consecutive year.

At the Guangdong Pavilion, an array of marine equipment innovations took center stage. "This is the 'Mengxiang' ocean drilling vessel, which was commissioned in Guangzhou in 2024 and currently boasts the world's strongest drilling capability among vessels of its kind," said Zhu Qianqiong, director of the marine economy division at the Guangzhou Oceanic Bureau. Also on display was a scale model of "Suhai 1," the world's first self-propelled, closed-containment salmon aquaculture vessel, which was built by Guangzhou-based CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard.

In 2025, Guangzhou's gross ocean product reached 523.1 billion yuan, representing 16.3% of its regional GDP and over 25% of the provincial GOP; meanwhile, the city has designated 626 square kilometers of industrial blocks and mapped out eight major marine industrial parks.

Modern marine ranching also drew significant attention. Developed by SPIC Jieyang Qianzhan Wind Power Co., Ltd., the "Longgong" marine ranching facility features a truss-type structure measuring 46 meters in length, 46 meters in width, and 56.8 meters in height. With an aquaculture water volume exceeding 70,000 cubic meters and a total investment of 128 million yuan, it was launched and put into operation in September 2025.

As the host city, Shenzhen achieved a gross ocean product of 570.49 billion yuan in 2025, accounting for 14.7% of the city's GDP, and is home to more than 110,000 marine-related business entities.
