With the thunderous beating of gongs and drums and the swift twirling of Yingge sticks, Yingge dancers in traditional attire performed their way along village roads, into the square in front of the village stage, and right up to the Eight Immortals dining tables. From Mid-Autumn Festival through National Day, Shangyan Village in Chengtian Town, Chaonan District, Shantou hosted a three-night "Yingge Feast." The event seamlessly linked Yingge dance—a Chinese national intangible cultural heritageitem—with traditional Chaoshan village banquets, allowing residents and tourists to experience the vibrant cultural charm of this hometown of overseas Chinese amidst bustling local life.

On the evenings of October 1st and 2nd, dozens of traditional Chaoshan Eight Immortals dining tables were arranged in neat rows across the square in front of Shangyan Village's stage. Yingge dancers paraded along the village's main thoroughfare into the center of the square, prompting onlookers along the way to hold up their phones and document the spectacle. Unlike traditional setups where the show is confined to the stage while guests dine at their tables, this year's Yingge Feast featured a custom-built banquet runway extending through the dining area. Attendants dressed in historical Chinese costumes presented traditional Chaoshan delicacies in a runway show style, announcing dish names while explaining their symbolic meanings and how to eat them as they walked.

This marks the third time Chengtian Town has hosted the "Yingge + Village Banquet" event, following successful editions during the Spring Festival and May Day holiday earlier this year. Compared to the previous two iterations, this holiday event expanded from a single session to sessions on three evenings, adding dish introductions and runway interactions that brought the performance off the stage and directly alongside diners. During the day, the Shangyan Cultural Square also featured a family entertainment zone with moldable play sand, ride-on toy cars, and building blocks, catering to all-day recreational needs for visiting families.
