On the evening of September 22nd, the 48th WorldSkills Competition kicked off in Shanghai. Making its debut in the Chinese mainland, this year's event is also the largest edition to date. The Chinese delegation sent 71 competitors to participate in all 64 skill competitions, with 17 from Guangdong representing the country.

The WorldSkills Competition is widely known as the "Olympics of Skills." This year's event saw 80 countries and regions complete event registration, with 68 countries and regions sending 1,385 young competitors to participate, setting new records for the numbers of both participating countries and competitors. Seven brand-new skill competitions made their debut, including Drone Systems, Digital Interactive Media Design, Rail Vehicle Technology, Intelligent Security Technology, Software Testing, Dental Prosthetics and Retail Sales.

The WorldSkills Competition has a poignant yet cruel rule: a competitor can only participate once in their lifetime. According to the rules of WorldSkills International, the age limit for competitors in most skills is 22 in the year of the competition, while for skills requiring more experience, such as Aircraft Maintenance and Industry 4.0, the limit is extended to 25.

Since China began participating in the WorldSkills Competition, Guangdong has trained a total of 104 competitors, securing 35 gold, 16 silver and 14 bronze medals, keeping its total medal count firmly in the country's top tier. The skills Guangdong competitors are participating in this year include not only traditional strong suits such as Fine Woodworking, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, CNC Turning and Mechanical Engineering CAD, but also new digital tracks like Mobile Applications Development and IT Network Systems Administration.

第48届世界技能大赛在上海开幕！17名广东工匠为国出征

9月22日晚，第48届世界技能大赛在上海拉开帷幕。本届大赛首次登陆中国大陆也是迄今为止规模最大的一届。中国代表团派出71名选手，征战全部64个竞赛项目。其中，17名广东选手为国征战。

世界技能大赛被誉为“世界技能奥林匹克”。本届大赛共有80个国家和地区完成赛事注册，68个国家和地区选派1385名青年选手参加，参赛国家、参赛选手数量双双刷新历史纪录。无人机系统、数字交互媒体设计、轨道车辆技术、智慧安防技术、软件测试、口腔修复工艺技术、零售7个全新赛项重磅登场。

世界技能大赛藏着一个动人又残酷的规则：选手一生只能参加一次比赛。按照世界技能组织规定，大部分赛项选手参赛当年年龄上限为22周岁；飞机维修、工业4.0等对经验要求更高的项目，放宽至25周岁。

据悉，自我国参加世界技能大赛以来，广东累计培养104名世赛选手，斩获35金16银14铜，奖牌总数稳居全国第一方阵。广东选手参加本届大赛的项目既有精细木工、制冷与空调、数控车、CAD机械设计等老牌优势项目，也有移动应用开发、网络系统管理等数字新赛道。
