Known for its firm texture, delicate sweetness without greasiness, and fresh and sweet flavor with no gamey taste, Qingyuan Wuzong goose is a National Geographical Indication Product of China and one of Guangdong's four renowned premium goose breeds. It is a highly representative signature agricultural product and calling card of the Lingnan region. Today, Wuzong goose has moved beyond regional boundaries and made its way into international markets.

The area along both banks of the Beijiang River is crisscrossed with waterways, dotted with ponds, and rich in aquatic vegetation. These unique natural endowments have nurtured Qingyuan's time-honored goose farming industry. In Qingyuan, Wuzong goose is deeply rooted in local folk culture and is an essential delicacy at weddings and festive banquets.

Qingyuan Wuzong goose gets its name from the distinctive band of black, mane-like feathers around the back of its neck. It has unique breed characteristics known as "three blacks, three slender features, and one short feature": a black beak, black plumage, and black feet; a fine head, slender neck, and fine bones; and a short, sturdy, compact build. It can be prepared in a variety of ways, including braising with repeated turning, slow stewing, and cooking in a seasoned sauce, all of which bring out a rich and authentic Lingnan flavor.

In the past, the Qingyuan Wuzong goose industry relied mainly on sales of primary products such as live geese and dressed geese to outside markets. Today, however, the industry is undergoing a comprehensive structural transformation and upgrading. For instance, the Feilaixia Food Processing Industrial Park in Qingcheng District has successfully introduced leading companies such as Yue E Huang, which are developing modern deep-processing production lines and product R&D centers. These companies are also producing a diverse range of pre-prepared dishes, including roast goose, soy-braised goose, and goose meatballs, helping to build an integrated industrial cluster spanning breeding, slaughtering, processing, cold-chain logistics, and sales.
In June 2026, Qingyuan Wuzong goose achieved a historic breakthrough in large-scale exports, as its first batch of 27 tons of frozen Qingyuan Wuzong geese, valued at approximately 800,000 yuan, was successfully exported to Cambodia via Nansha Port, marking its entry into the Southeast Asian market.
