In 2024, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT)set a target of completing the replacement and upgrading of about 2 million sets of industrial software by 2027. In 2025, the State Council issued a guideline on deepening the implementation of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Plus Initiative, identifying breakthroughs in industrial software innovation as a key priority. In September of the same year, Guangdong released the Action Plan for High-Quality Development of Manufacturing Industry Empowered by Artificial Intelligence in Guangdong Province (2025-27). With a series of policy initiatives taking shape, domestically developed industrial software is reshaping the foundation of manufacturing.

Changes are already taking place on the manufacturing front lines in Guangdong. At OPPO, large AI models have reduced the number of design iterations for smartphones from five to just two, lowering trial-production risks and significantly shortening research and development cycles. The company's latest foldable model is capable of withstanding 600,000 folds while maintaining a virtually crease-free display. At the die-casting workshop of Dongguan Eontec Co., Ltd., complex simulation tasks that once required more than 20 hours can now be completed in just three to four hours with a fully domestic digital toolchain. The company's homegrown digital simulation software also helps save tens of millions of yuan each year by reducing mold repair costs and production scrap. At EMA Technology, a hardware engineer recently completed the schematic design for an edge computing box. The connector symbols used in the design were retrieved with a single click from a domestic component database—a task that previously required one or two days to obtain drawings from suppliers and manually redraw them.

The gains in research and development efficiency and reductions in manufacturing costs are not the result of isolated efforts by individual companies. Rather, they are tangible outcomes of coordinated national and provincial policies that have consistently strengthened independent innovation in industrial software and accelerated the integration of artificial intelligence into manufacturing.
