On the vast farmland of XAG's Super Farmin Huangpu District, Guangzhou, an agricultural drone slowly takes off from its supporting drone docking station. It flies autonomously along a pre-programmed route and completes its spraying tasks with precision, functioning like an aerial robot that works entirely on its own. Even more impressively, after completing its mission, it accurately returns to the docking station, where it automatically recharges its battery and refills its pesticide tank.

The technologies behind these scenes are Guangdong-made drones and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. From agricultural crop protection, low-altitude logisticsand power line inspectionto urban surveying, emergency rescue and manned flight, an expanding network of tangiblelow-altitude flight routesis rapidly taking shape across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area(GBA).
By the end of last year, Guangdong had built 76 general aviation airports, more than 3,500 drone takeoff and landing sites, and launched nearly 700 drone flight routes. The province has also established a solid technological foundation, with 66,000 5G-Advanced (5G-A) base stations already in operation. As supporting infrastructure continues to improve, urban air mobilityis evolving from point-to-point operations toward an integrated network.
As of May this year, 19 aircraft models nationwide had obtained Type Certificates (TCs) issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), 14 of which were developed in Guangdong, accounting for more than 70% of the national total.
Guangdong has also hosted a series of major industry events, including the first Conference on High-Quality Development of Low-Altitude Economy in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the 2025 International Low-Altitude Economy Trade Expo, the 2025 Asia General Aviation Expo, the 10th World Drone Congress, and the 2026 Guangzhou International Low-Altitude Economy and Aerospace Exhibition, further strengthening its industrial agglomeration capacityand international influence.
