On July 8th, the Guangdong Provincial Writers Association officially launched the Shenzhen leg of its 2026 Global Writers on Guangdong program. Seven writers from six APEC member economies will take up residency in Guangdong for a nearly two-month creative literary tour.

The seven writers hail from Indonesia, South Korea, Peru, Mexico, Singapore, and Vietnam. The group includes poets, novelists, and travel writers, as well as scholars and authors who have long taught in China and conducted sinological research.
Later that day, the writers visited the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning (MOCAUP) to view the Exhibition on the 40th Anniversary of Guangdong's Reform and Opening-up. They then traveled to Yumin (Fishermen's) Village in Luohu District, where they heard the remarkable story of how a local fishing settlement evolved into one of China's earliest "ten-thousand-yuan household" villages.
Peruvian writer Gian Pierre Codarlupo took notes while watching an introductory video about the village. He told reporters that the story astonished him, calling it "an unprecedented transformation" .In his view, China's development experience offers Latin America a compelling case study worthy of close observation.
South Korean writer Song Gabin, who has studied and taught in China and frequently traveled among South Korea, China, and India, expressed her anticipation for the journey ahead. She said she is especially looking forward to watching the hit film "Dear You" to learn more about the Chaoshan Qiaopi (overseas Chinese remittances) culture.
In the coming weeks, the writers will also visit Zhongshan, Zhuhai, Jiangmen, and Guangzhou, exploring and crafting new "Guangdong stories" through a literary lens.
