From June 11th to 13th, the APEC Economies China Studies Scholars Forum was held at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Convention Center. Nearly 100 scholars and experts from 16 APEC economies gathered for in-depth, multi-dimensional discussions about China's development and the shared future of the Asia-Pacific.
Over nearly four decades since its establishment, APEC's agenda has expanded from its original focus on trade and investment liberalization to broader areas including the digital economy, green transition and supply chain resilience.
At the forum, artificial intelligence and computing infrastructure emerged as key topics of discussion among experts. The Asia-Pacific region is home to the world's most concentrated semiconductor manufacturing capacity, rapidly expanding data center clusters and leading digital innovation capabilities. How to transform these resources into incremental dividends for regional cooperation is a question APEC must address.
China's practices in the digital economy have already provided valuable references for regional cooperation. From Shenzhen's 5G+ Industrial Internet and Hangzhou's Cross-Border E-Commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone to Guangzhou's digital trade port and Chengdu's AI International Hub, these experiences have been shared with APEC members through the platform, enabling small and medium-sized enterprises in more developing economies to benefit from technological progress.
The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) was repeatedly highlighted during the forum. Perhaps the greatest inspiration it offers APEC is that regional economic integration does not necessarily require a unified institutional framework. Instead, deeper integration can be achieved gradually through pragmatic technical arrangements, gradual pilot promotion and mutually beneficial cooperation mechanisms.
APEC“中国年”的经济答卷：开放、算力与湾区实践
6月11日至13日，“APEC经济体中国问题研究专家论坛”（APEC Economies China Studies Scholars Forum）在广州白云国际会议中心举行。来自16个APEC经济体的近百位中外专家学者，围绕“中国的发展与亚太的共同未来”核心主题，开展多维度、深层次学术研讨。
APEC成立近40年来，其议程已从最初的贸易投资自由化，逐步扩展至数字经济、绿色转型、供应链韧性等更广泛的领域。
论坛现场，人工智能与算力基础设施成为多位专家热议的焦点。亚太地区拥有全球最密集的半导体制造产能、快速增长的数据中心集群以及领先的数字技术创新能力，如何将这些资源转化为区域合作的“增量红利”，是APEC必须回答的问题。
中国在数字经济领域的实践已经为区域合作提供了可参考的样本。从深圳的5G+工业互联网到杭州的跨境电商综试区，从广州的数字贸易港到成都的人工智能创新中心，这些经验通过APEC平台与各成员分享，让更多发展中经济体的中小企业享受到技术进步的红利。
本届论坛上，粤港澳大湾区被反复提及。大湾区带给APEC的最大启示或许是，区域经济一体化不一定需要统一的制度框架，而是可以通过务实的技术安排、循序渐进的试点推广、各方受益的合作机制，逐步走向深度融合。
