At the 22nd China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF), the upcoming 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, to be held in Shenzhen, became a hot topic, with industry players looking forward to deeper cultural exchanges among APEC economies.
YoyWow, a service provider specializing in helping China's entertainment, cultural tourism, and cultural and creative sectors expand overseas, has accumulated years of practical experience in the field. Wu Dake, co-founder of the company, said, "Many viewers in APEC economies, especially internet users, regularly follow Chinese variety shows, costume dramas, and micro-dramas."
The company is now promoting Chinese-foreign co-productions of variety shows and TV dramas. Wu said the process involves "bringing overseas actors and influencers to China to experience its culture and tourism, while also taking Chinese influencers abroad. The storytelling approaches of directors and writers from both sides are gradually blending as they seek points of emotional resonance. The finished productions will be released simultaneously overseas and in China." This, she said, represents a two-way exchange at the creative level.
In IP cooperation and content development, the momentum of mutual empowerment among APEC economies is particularly evident. Speaking about Chinese IP, Ma Chenglong, representative of the China Chapter of the Korea Cultural Content Licensing Association, singled out Labubu. "Last year, the most popular Chinese IP worldwide was Labubu, and it was also very popular in South Korea. The influence of Chinese IP is growing, and we also hope to introduce Chinese creativity to South Korea. Cooperation between the two sides will produce better results," he said.
The upcoming APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Shenzhen will also create new opportunities for cultural exchanges among APEC economies. Ma stressed that "exchange is essential." Wu, for her part, expressed hope that "more offline cooperation opportunities can be created among APEC economies, that more overseas performers will come to China to perform, and that more Chinese performers will visit local markets and interact with audiences face to face." She believes such people-to-people exchanges will open up new space for cultural trade in the Asia-Pacific and help promote deeper integration of the region's cultural and creative industries.
