On May 16th, the Advanced Round of the 6th "Stories of China Retold in English" Contest was held at Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) in Guangdong. Nearly 100 international students in China from 31 countries and regions gathered to share, with sincerity and passion, their stories of encountering, understanding and growing together with China, presenting to the world a true, multi-dimensional and comprehensive image of China.

According to the organizers, the contest has included a Domestic Foreign Students Category since its second edition to encourage international students to learn Chinese and use the language in the competition. The sixth edition features the College Category, the Domestic Foreign Students Category and the Overseas Category. Contestants in the Domestic Foreign Students Category are required to use a non-native language throughout the competition, with Chinese encouraged as the preferred language for all segments.

At the competition, the international students told their stories with vivid language and heartfelt emotion. Some shared their observations on the rapid development of artificial intelligence in China, offering first-hand insights into how technology is reshaping everyday life. Others spoke about the sense of security they have experienced in China, coming to understand that peace and development are the most precious foundation of civilization.

Some contestants used pingshu, a traditional art form of storytelling, to illustrate the inheritance and development of Chinese culture, with a performance of "The Legend of Yue Fei" that was full of twists and turns and kept the audience captivated. Others demonstrated the warm needle acupuncture technique on stage, presenting the profound heritage and modern vitality of traditional Chinese medicine.

On stage, the contestants also brought Chinese culture to life through performances of traditional Chinese arts. From martial arts that blended strength and grace, and calligraphy marked by free-flowing strokes, to the melodious ruan, the powerful rhythms of Yingge dance, the distinctive charm of Cantonese Opera and the exquisite artistry of paper-cutting, the international students showcased the extraordinary appeal and strong attraction of fine traditional Chinese culture with impressive skills and genuine passion.

唱粤剧、英歌舞、表演武术……31国留学生齐聚中大同台竞技！

5月16日，第六届“用英语讲中国故事大会”广东省专场活动在中山大学举办。来自全球31个国家和地区的近100名来华留学生齐聚一堂，深情讲述他们与中国相遇、相知、共同成长的故事，向世界传递了真实、立体、全面的中国声音。

据悉，本大赛从第二届开始设来华留学生组，为了推动其学习中文，鼓励他们使用中文参赛。第六届设有大学生组、来华留学生组和海外组，来华留学生组选手要求全程使用非母语，优先使用中文进行各环节展示。

比赛现场，留学生们用生动的语言和真挚的情感讲述了各自的故事。有的同学分享了中国人工智能的飞速发展，真切地体会到科技如何重塑日常生活；有的同学讲述了在中国感受到的“安全感”，理解了和平与发展才是最珍贵的文明底色；有的同学以中国评书为例讲述中国文化的传承与发展，一场评书《岳飞传》跌宕起伏、引人入胜；有的同学现场展示温针灸技法，将中医的博大精深与现代生命力娓娓道来。

舞台之上，选手们还通过中华才艺展示，让文化“活”了起来。从刚柔并济的武术、行云流水的书法，到悠扬婉转的阮琴、铿锵有力的英歌舞，再到韵味十足的粤剧、巧夺天工的剪纸，留学生们以精湛的技艺和真挚的热爱，展现了中华优秀传统文化的非凡魅力与强大吸引力。
