Recently, the sea-use permits for the Nansha Port Phase V project of Guangzhou Port were approved by the State Council and the Ministry of Natural Resources. Meanwhile, on March 31st, the first 10,800 CEU LNG dual-fuel pure car truck carrier (PCTC) built by Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) for South Korea's HMM set sail from Guangzhou for sea trials. With continued investment in port infrastructure and accelerated upgrades in high-end marine engineering equipment, these coordinated developments are helping Guangdong integrate more deeply into global industrial and value chains.

The Nansha Port Phase V project involves more than 280 hectares of land reclamation—the largest single newly approved reclamation project in Guangzhou in recent years. Located downstream from the under-construction Nansha International General Terminal, the project has a total estimated investment of 14.45 billion yuan and includes four 200,000-metric-ton container berths with a total shoreline of 1,880 meters. In recent years, Guangzhou Port has demonstrated strong growth momentum, with average annual increases in cargo handling capacity and container handling capacity exceeding 20 million tons and 1 million TEUs, respectively, and an average annual addition of 15 foreign trade container shipping routes, continuously elevating its role as a key shipping hub.

If the port expansion represents an upgrade of infrastructure for outward connectivity, then this Chinese-built giant vessel symbolizes a leap in Guangdong's maritime capabilities. The first 10,800 CEU LNG dual-fuel PCTC is currently the world's first dual-fuel PCTC with a capacity of more than 10,000 vehicles under construction. The vessel measures 230 meters in length, with a molded breadth of 40 meters and a structural draft of 10.5 meters, and can reach a speed of 19 knots. Featuring a 14-deck garage design, the ship can flexibly carry a diverse range of vehicles, including electric vehicles and heavy-duty trucks, with a maximum carrying capacity of 10,800 vehicles. It adopts a diesel and LNG dual-fuel propulsion system equipped with shaft generators, enabling power generation during navigation to achieve energy conservation and emission reduction, and complies with the IMO Tier III emission standards.
