On March 8th, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated while answering questions of journalists from home and abroad that the vision of an Asia-Pacific community must not stay on paper or remain just a vision. As an economy highly dependent on foreign trade, Singapore regards APEC as an indispensable cooperation platform. How can the answers to "Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together" be found in Shenzhen? Reporters from Yangcheng Evening News conducted an exclusive interview with Siwage Negara, Senior Research Fellow at the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute in Singapore.

Siwage Negara noted that against the backdrop of rising global uncertainties and frequent geopolitical conflicts, APEC stands as a precious platform for all countries to recommit to the fundamental goals of economic cooperation. He also highlighted that the economic rise of Shenzhen and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) hinges on the continuity of its policies and the long-term stability of its social environment. For many APEC members, the practices of the GBA serve as a vivid case study.
Negara also expressed his expectations for the APEC "China Year". He hoped that all APEC economies could seize APEC Shenzhen this year, mitigate geopolitical risks through regional cooperation, and jointly build a prosperous and mutually beneficial economic ecosystem in the Asia-Pacific.
In Negara's view, China-ASEAN economic and trade exchanges are shifting from simple "scale expansion" to "high-quality integration." In this process, enterprises from Guangdong are playing a leading role in these key areas, and such competitive edges are being transformed into driving forces for the common progress of the region.
Negara further said Indonesia has a strong interest in learning from China, including Guangzhou and Shenzhen, on how to apply digital technologies in the governance of its new capital. He added that the urban development models of Guangzhou and Shenzhen provide a tangible reference for Southeast Asia in building a new generation of cities.
For Singapore, cooperation with the GBA should focus on such fields as the digital economy, artificial intelligence and innovation. He noted that Singapore and Guangdong enjoy broad prospects for cooperation in these fields.
