Kungfu Heritage Flows On: Jieyang’s Martial Arts Culture Comes Alive
Art and Culture|The Rongjiang River runs through Jieyang, a historic city in eastern Guangdong, bearing witness to more than 2,000 years of change and vitality. Known not only for its long history, Jieyang is also widely recognized as a “Hometown of Martial Art”. As evening falls, dozens of teenagers at the Huang Chuanshan Martial Arts School near Jinxian Gate practice steady horse stances, while the forceful shouts of Nanzhi Quan echo through the centuries-old building. At the Academy square in the old town, the vigorous drumbeats of Yingge Dance resound, accompanied by dancers' powerful, rhythmic steps. Meanwhile, at the Sun Shuqiang Lion Dance and Martial Arts School, young performers seamlessly blend martial arts with green lion dance, leaping dynamically into the air.
