On December 12th, the opening ceremony of the 24th Guangdong Seed Industry Expo was held at the Agro-Tech Extension Center of Guangdong Province and the Demonstration Base of Modern Agricultural Technology and Equipment of Guangdong Province.

Over the past five years, Guangdong's seed industry has forged ahead in the face of challenges while building momentum for breakthroughs. Guangdong has made a series of landmark achievements in its seed industry. For example, high-yield, high-quality, and disease-resistant rice varieties have been successfully bred. "Cuimi", the world's first hybrid variety between longan and lychee, has been developed. Guangdong has taken the global lead in applying genome design to enable hybrid potato varieties to replace tuber propagation. A total of 31 broiler chicken varieties have been bred, accounting for over 40% of the national total. Earlier this year, a variety called "Huahang Xiang Yinzhen", the only conventional super rice variety of simiao rice that once traveled into space, was included in the list of Super Rice Varieties released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

As the core engine of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area(GBA), Guangdong has nurtured a cohort of leading seed enterprises, including GLseed, Guangdong Helinong Biological Seed Industry Co., Ltd., and Guangdong Xianmei Seed Co., Ltd. Zhongxin Breeding also topped the Unicorns List of Forbes China 2022.

Up to now, Guangdong has collected and preserved 368,000 germplasm resources, ranking among the top nationwide. A national regional gene bank for livestock and poultry has been established, alongside four provincial-level agricultural germplasm resource banks covering crops, livestock and poultry, aquatic species, and microorganisms, all of which are now put into operation.

From "Guangdong rice" leading nationwide to "Guangdong pigs" expanding across the country, from the space-bred "Huahang Xiang Yinzhen" to a single seed in Dongyuan County generating an output value of 240 million yuan, the seed industry is emerging as a core driving force of agricultural modernization.

一粒种子撬动亿元产值！广东种业博览会启幕

12月12日，第二十四届广东种业博览会开幕式在广东省农业技术推广中心、广东省现代农业技术与装备示范基地举行。

过去五年，是广东种业迎难而上、蓄势突破的五年。“粤强种芯”工程取得了一批标志性成果：育成“南晶香占”“青香优19香”等一批高产优质抗病水稻新品种；育成世界首个龙眼荔枝杂交新品种“脆蜜”；在全球率先运用基因组设计实现马铃薯杂交种替代薯块繁殖；育成31个肉鸡品种占全国超40%；今年初，曾遨游太空的“华航香银针”入选农业农村部发布的超级稻名单，是目前唯一的常规丝苗米超级稻品种。

作为粤港澳大湾区的核心引擎，广东诞生了以广良、和利农、鲜美种苗等为代表的一大批种业龙头，中芯种业更登顶福布斯2022年新晋独角兽榜首。

截至目前，广东收集保存种质资源36.8万份，数量居全国前列。建成国家区域性畜禽基因库，农作物、畜禽、水产、微生物四大省级农业种质资源库建成并投入使用。

从领跑全国的“粤稻”到走向全国的“广东猪”，从太空育成的“华航香银针”到东源县一粒种子撬动2.4亿元产值，种业正成为驱动农业现代化的核心力量。
