Carrying the memory of Shenzhen's reform and opening-up era, the Minghua ship has completed its renovation and rebirth. Now transformed into an "immersive performance complex," it officially makes its debut. From October 1st onward, China's first original immersive physical theatre production"The Deal" will begin its world premiere aboard the Minghua ship.

After renovation, the interior of the Minghua ship has been restored with elements of late 19th-century French Art Nouveau, combined with Eastern botanical motifs, creating an integration of Western and Eastern aesthetics.

The immersive physical theatre"The Deal" is co-produced by a Sino-British team and presented by artists from 12 countries. It is mentioned that the ship features eight interconnected scenes akin to a "Inception" style labyrinth. The revolving stages, movable scenic walls, and hidden stagemechanisms enable instant scene transitions. Nearly 3,000 props, sourced from European vintage shops, enrich every detail. In this promenade performance with no fixed seating, the audience shifts from being "spectators" to "participants," following actors through multi-functional ship cabins. This site-specific theatre aboard a ship allows audiences not only to enjoy an artistic experience but also to enjoy food and cultural merchandise.

In terms of its creative inspiration, the play draws on Goethe's "Faust" and Gogol's "The Overcoat," yet is rooted in Shenzhen's city spirit. The story is set in a workplace context: the impoverished and timid male protagonist Marcel strikes a deal with the devil to win love and achieve success, exchanging his soul for a symbolic "splendid garment" representing power and wealth. Ultimately, he comes to understand the true meaning of lifeafter achieving the temporary success.
