During Guangdong Week at Expo 2025 Osaka, the China Pavilion drew large crowds, and all five concurrent business exchange events were packed. Showcasing Guangdong's signature offerings, intelligent robots, comprehensive health achievements, and Xinhui chenpi (dried tangerine peel from Xinhui), local enterprises actively explored opportunities, while officials from cities such as Yangjiang and Shaoguan became enthusiastic "investment ambassadors".

The five economic and trade events spanned the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), including Guangzhou and Shaoguan, signaling strong cooperation interest from both Chinese and Japanese enterprises and government bodies. Local officials took the initiative to promote their regions. The mayor of Shaoguan, for example, offered a substantial package of "10-billion-yuan fund + preferential policies" to attract investment. Yohei Hattori, deputy governor of Hyogo Prefecture in Japan, noted that around 50 Hyogo-based companies have expanded into Guangdong, and the prefecture has also set up an office in Hong Kong to explore the Asian market.

At the enterprise level, both sides had clear objectives. Dr. Jonathan Choi, Chairman of GBA Entrepreneurs Alliance, highlighted Japan's expertise in comprehensive healthcare and elderly care services, noting the vast cooperation potential with the aging yet sizable GBA market. He welcomed Japanese investment in elderly care and wellness projects. During the events, business card exchanges were frequent. Cai Weisheng, executive president of the Foshan Chamber of Commerce of Importers and Exporters, exchanged around 20 cards in one morning and engaged in discussions with Japanese companies. Panda-themed intangible cultural heritage items from Chaozhou Ruili Ceramics Co., Ltd also attracted interest and received an invitation for display from Japanese organizers.

Japanese businesses expressed strong interest. Hirokazu Yokoyama, president of the Japan-China Multi-Industry Exchange Friendship Association, joined the event to learn about comprehensive health products and brought heatstroke prevention products to seek potential partners. Xu Zhimin, executive vice president of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Japan, remarked that the event gave Japanese companies a deeper understanding of China's transformation from the "world's factory" into a vibrant economy.

These trade exchanges demonstrated the global appeal of Guangdong and the GBA, reinforcing the irreversible trend of globalization. Both Choi and Yokoyama emphasized the GBA's enormous market potential and expressed hope for deeper collaboration in the future, particularly in jointly tapping emerging markets such as ASEAN, to achieve mutual benefits through openness and cooperation.
