This July, the Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) will mark the third anniversary of its opening. A week ago, at the historic Zhang Yuan complex acclaimed "No. 1 public garden of Shanghai," the HKPM's first-ever exhibition held outside Hong Kong officially opened to the public free of charge. The exhibition runs through July 31st. Featuring works by 16 Hong Kong artists, the showcase includes the globally popular designer toy IP "Labubu" by the celebrated Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung. On the Chinese social‑media platform Xiaohongshu (RedNote), the phrase "Hong Kong Palace Museum takes the Labubu family to Shanghai" quickly became a trending topic.

The HKPM's first exhibition outside Hong Kong aims to interpret Chinese classical gardens through cross-disciplinary contemporary art, such as painting, video, and multimedia, providing a fresh perspective on cultural innovation. How can traditional culture attract young audiences via innovative thinking? How can traditional culture be connected to modern life?

"Traditional culture should appeal not only to people of our age, but also interest the youth," said Louis Ng Chi‑wa, director of the HKPM, in a joint interview in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Media Tour themed "United Dream, Shared Development" on June 25th. He emphasized that innovation is vital for cultural inheritance.

"Together with Labubu, the HKPM has incorporated traditional elements into the artistic creations. Some visitors realize that there isn't an insurmountable gap between modern life and traditional culture," Ng said, expressing hope to collaborate with more young people and artists to produce works that bridge traditional culture and modern life.

香港故宫带上Labubu“北上”首展！

7月，香港故宫文化博物馆即将迎来开馆3周年。一周前，在上海著名的 “海上第一名园”──张园历史建筑群，香港故宫文博馆首个在香港以外举办的展览正式免费向公众开放，展期至今年7月31日。这次展览汇聚16位香港艺术家，其中就包括火爆全球的潮玩IP“Labubu”之父、香港艺术家龙家升。在社交平台小红书上，“香港故宫带着Labubu全家福”到上海成了热词。

香港故宫文博馆首次“走出去”旨在透过绘画、录影及多媒体等跨领域艺术创作，从当代艺术视角诠释中国传统园林，深入探索文化创新。传统文化如何以创新思维来吸引年轻观众？怎样让传统文化与现代生活连接？

“传统文化不仅要我们这样年龄大的人喜欢，也要让年轻人感兴趣。”6月25日，香港故宫文化博物馆馆长吴志华在接受“同心筑梦·共谋发展”粤港澳媒体湾区行联合采访中表示，传统文化要传承，创新是很重要的。

“香港故宫跟LABUBU一起，把一些传统元素加入创作中。有些观众看了会觉得，原来现代生活跟传统文化，并没有一个截然不同的鸿沟。”吴志华说，希望跟更多年轻人、更多艺术家创造把传统文化跟现代生活相衔接的作品。
