In 2024, Guangzhou exported 154,000 vehicles, marking a year-on-year increase of 53.1%, with export value reaching 18.01 billion yuan, up 41.2% from the previous year. From January to May alone, the city exported 73,500 vehicles, a 29% year-on-year growth, ranking second in Guangdong Province and emerging as a new highlight of Guangzhou's foreign trade.
To support the automotive industry's global expansion, Guangzhou has rolled out a suite of favorable policies and tailored services. The city provides "one-on-one" support for key exporters, streamlining the business environment. For example, to address fuel vehicle registration limits, the city introduced special export quotas for parallel exports of fuel-powered vehicles. It also facilitated swift export tax rebates. XPeng Motors, for instance, completed the process within just a few days. Guangzhou also launched China's First Comprehensive Guide to Used Car Exports. As a result, the number of used car exporters in the city surged from 10 in 2023 to nearly 100. In the first five months of this year, Guangzhou exported 14,000 used vehicles, up 111% year-on-year, accounting for 51% of the provincial total.
With policy support, the city is encouraging the development of auto export service hubs, offering up to 10 million yuan in annual subsidies per hub. Five such hubs have already been established, with plans for 3 to 4 more this year. Notable bases such as the Chengli Automobile Export Base and the China (Guangzhou) Automobile Export Base offer one-stop services that significantly enhance export efficiency. Chengli exported 2,188 used vehicles in 2024 and 2,800 units in the first five months of this year alone. GAC Business exported over 7,000 vehicles in 2024 and aims to ship 15,000 in 2025.
Guangzhou-based automakers are expanding their global footprint. From January to May, GAC Group sold 48,000 vehicles overseas, a 3.1% increase year-on-year, with its new energy vehicles (NEVs) securing over 10% market share in Southeast Asia. In Q1 2025, XPeng Motors topped the overseas sales chart among emerging Chinese EV brands, with a 370% year-on-year surge, ranking first in nine countries.
According to the Guangzhou Municipal Commerce Bureau, the city aims to export over 200,000 vehicles in 2025. To reach this target, it will continue to refine its policies, improve the business environment, and offer robust services to support the high-quality development of the automotive industry.
