On December 21st, local time in France, the "Maritime· Paris" organized by the Yangcheng Evening News Group, entered its third day. Four Chinese youth short films supported by the Maritime Guangdong Program, "Bring Him Back", "Echoes of the Long Day" ,"The Rain Will Fall" ,"The Pig Will Sink" and "Hi, Marilyn" were screened at the renowned art cinema LES 3 LUXEMBOURG in Paris's Latin Quarter.
LES 3 LUXEMBOURG, with nearly 60 years of history, is famous for screening art films. Located in the Latin Quarter, an area known for being a hub of intellectuals in Paris, is surrounded by a rich cultural atmosphere. Even before the screening began, film enthusiasts were already waiting outside the cinema. A French man named Denis told the reporter, "I didn't know much about Guangdong before. I looked up some information before coming to the film, and I hope to learn more about Guangdong through these films."
Paris resident Claude Devoir shared that due to his work, he had visited China multiple times and was quite familiar with Chinese culture. During the conversation, he casually slipped in Chinese phrases like "hello" and "no problem", and even shared with the reporter his favorite Chinese film, "The King of Masks" directed by Wu Tianming. After the screening, Devoir remarked, "I didn’t visit many tourist attractions in China. Most of the places I went to were more local and down-to-earth. These films allowed me to relive the atmosphere of those times, and it felt really great."
After the first two days of screenings, the "Maritime" screening has already built up a group of "returning viewers." one of them is Rosine Young, a French actress and director. After attending the opening day event, she came back the following day specifically for the screening and had an in-depth conversation with director Zhang Di afterward. She candidly shared that "Hi, Marilyn" brought back fond memories of her correspondence with pen pals from around the world. "Today, several viewers told me that they really connected with the emotions portrayed in the film, which surprised me," she said.
The power of film lies not only in telling stories but also in sparking the audience's cultural curiosity. A young French man named Roman, after watching the film, told the reporter, "I've been to other countries in Asia, but I haven't been to China yet. I feel that Chinese culture is very rich, and in tonight's film, I saw many different dialects and regional cultures, which really attracted me. For example, the traditional architecture and the countryside scenes in the film are very different from Europe. I hope that one day I can visit those places in person."
