Guangdong boasts over 4,000 kilometers of coastline, providing an abundance of seafood and establishing the province as a leader in China's marine fishing industry. At the end of June, the "Ge Sheng No. 1", a semi-submersible farming platform located off the coast of Guishan Island, was officially put into operation as a new marine ranch. Recently, Jacob C. Brown (Chinese name: Wang Wei), a Liberian student, visited the "Ge Sheng No. 1" platform as part of the "ISeeChina" project by Yangcheng Evening News, where he experienced offshore fish farming firsthand.

After a 70-minute boat ride from Zhuhai's Xiangzhou Port , wang Wei arrived at "Ge Sheng No. 1". Su Zheng, the platform's operations manager, guided him on a tour of the marine ranch.

The "Ge Sheng No. 1" platform measures 86 meters long, 32 meters wide, and 16.5 meters high, with a working draft of 10.5 meters and a water volume exceeding 30,000 cubic meters. Su Zheng explained that the platform primarily cultivates red snapper and golden pompano.

Wang Wei comes from Liberia, Which has over 600 kilometers of coastline. Su Zheng, Who has experience in fish farming in Africa, shared, "Africa has a long coastline, and your country has excellent natural conditions. If we can introduce Chinese aquaculture technology, marine fisheries in the future will develop even better."

Inspired by this conversation, Wang Wei remarked, "Bringing marine ranch to Africa could change many people's lives."

Su Zheng encouraged him, saying, "I hope you take on this initiative."

Wang Wei found his visit to "Ge Sheng No. 1" deeply impressive. He noted, "China has 1.4 billion people, and Guangdong alone has over 100 million. Ensuring that so many people are well-fed is no small challenge. China is now utilizing modern technology to grow food in the sea, tapping into the ocean for protein. This is something Africa can learn from China."

I See China|
