In the first half of this year, Guangdong publicly listed enterprises excelled in research and development (R&D) investments, ranking second nationally and surpassing the average level of A-shares. Statistics show that the 840 A-share listed enterprises in Guangdong invested a total of 142.752 billion yuan in R&D, reflecting an 8.5% year-on-year growth, which is higher than the national average. Notably, enterprises in high-tech sectors such as automotive, telecommunications, and pharmaceuticals demonstrated particularly strong R&D investment and business performance.
BYD is the only enterprise with R&D investments exceeding 20 billion yuan, having invested 20.177 billion yuan in the first half of the year, a 41.64% increase year-on-year. This investment accounts for 6.7% of its revenue. BYD not only leads domestically in R&D spending but also surpasses Tesla, earning the title of "R&D King" in the A-share market. In the telecommunications sector, ZTE ranks second with 13.429 billion yuan in R&D investment, which constitutes a significant21.49% of its revenue. Midea Group follows in third place with 7.663 billion yuan in R&D expenses, primarily focused on the home appliance sector.
In terms of the size of R&D teams, BYD leads with 102,800 researchers, making up 14.62% of its workforce. Following closely are ZTE and Foxconn Industrial Internet, with 35,400 and 31,800 R&D personnel, respectively. This strong R&D workforce enhances their innovation capabilities and market competitiveness.
Experts suggest that while increasing R&D investments may lead to short-term financial pressure, it is essential for the long-term development of enterprises. Firms with strong market demand and advanced technology can significantly enhance their core competitiveness through R&D. Additionally, as domestic enterprises improve their innovation capabilities, the demand for skilled tech professionals will continue to rise, driving further growth in the market for high-end talent.
