On September 4th, the world's largest typhoon-resistant wind power-fishery integrated platform, the "Fuxi No.1" by China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN), was officially completed and put into operation in Shanwei, south China's Guangdong Province. It has also started its first batch of fish stocking. This platform can withstand typhoons up to level 17 and is expected to generate an annual output value of 54 million yuan. It serves as a significant model for integrating offshore wind power with marine ranching in China.
The "Fuxi No.1" project began construction in August 2023, with a total investment of 200 million yuan. It is located at the central area of the 500,000-kilowatt offshore wind farm in CGN in Houhu, Shanwei, approximately 11 kilometers from the coast. The platform consists of two main parts, the net cage structure and the upper platform.
The "Fuxi No.1" is powered entirely by green energy and features five marine ranching intelligent systems including green energy supply, combined air-water feeding, automatic net cleaning, environmental monitoring and warning, and live fish preservation. The net cage structure is 70 meters long, 35 meters wide, and operates in water about 25.7 meters deep, with a total water volume of 63,000 cubic meters. Once operational, it is expected to produce around 900 tons of high-quality seawater fish annually, generating 54 million yuan in value and creating about 200 jobs locally. In three years, with the full development of the Shanwei Houhu wind power-fishery integrated marine ranch project, Shanwei will become a model for integrating offshore wind power, deep-sea aquaculture, ecological enhancement, and recreational tourism with improved and complemented onshore breeding bases and tourism facilities. The total water volume will reach 300,000 cubic meters, annual production will increase to 4,500 tons, and visitor numbers are expected to exceed 180,000, with a combined annual value of 450 million yuan and about 800 new jobs. In five years, the project will form a complete marine economic industrial chain, boosting related industries and potentially generating tens of billions of yuan in annual value, with over 10,000 jobs, becoming a new highlight in marine economic development for Guangdong and China.
