Why are the top two global shopping apps based in Guangzhou?

The dominance of Guangzhou-based companies, Shein and Temu, in global shopping app downloads reflects the allure of China's manufacturing prowess to international consumers. According to the recent "2024 Mobile Market Report" by data.ai, Shein and Temu secured the top two spots in the global shopping app downloads for 2023.

These two companies are formidable players in cross-border e-commerce, with Shein claiming the top spot for the second consecutive year in 2023, and Temu exhibiting exceptional growth, with a staggering 840% increase in sales in the US from January 2023 to 2024.

Industry experts attribute the choice of Guangzhou by Shein and Temu to its geographical advantage, robust infrastructure, favorable business environment, and market opportunities in cross-border e-commerce development.

Shein established its supply chain center in Guangzhou in 2014, capitalizing on the city's strong industrial foundation and the concentration of industry professionals and university talents. The city's conducive environment allowed Shein to solidify its supply chain and enhance product competitiveness, paving the way for its unique path in overseas brand development through flexible on-demand production.

Guangzhou has become a hub for high-quality cross-border e-commerce enterprises, nurturing companies like Vipshop, O'Mall, Topideal, Nansha International Logistics Center, and Jiesheng Logistics. With Guangzhou leading import volumes for nine consecutive years, it has emerged as a battleground for cross-border e-commerce giants.

The significant increase in logistics demand reflects the strong expansion demand of cross-border e-commerce giants. According to the "Guangzhou Real Estate Market Review and Outlook for 2024" report by Savills released in January, Guangzhou witnessed a significant rebound in logistics net absorption to 883,000 square meters in 2023, approximately 2.5 times the average level of the past five years. CarlbyXie, Head of Savills Southern China Research, attributed this to the strong expansion demand of a few well-known cross-border e-commerce players.

The rapid development of cross-border e-commerce in Guangzhou can be attributed to its favorable geographical and transportation advantages,withport clusters of Nansha, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong greatly facilitating maritime shipping and international trade. Additionally, the city's transportation hubs, including railways and airports, along with free trade zones like the Nansha Bonded Zone and the Baiyun Airport Comprehensive Bonded Zone, have greatly facilitated the development of logistics and commerce flows.

Moreover, Guangzhou's well-developed manufacturing industry actively embraces cross-border e-commerce during its transformation. The industrial belt undoubtedly plays a crucial role in attracting cross-border e-commerce businesses.

Taking the clothing industry as an example, Guangzhou has gradually developed a complete industrial chain integrating raw material procurement, fabric and accessory production, clothing design, manufacturing, and sales.

The city's high-quality and robust industrial foundation has become a gold mine for the development of cross-border e-commerce, with the "cross-border e-commerce + industrial belt" model contributing to a powerful combination of new business formats and high-quality supply chains, empowering numerous small and medium-sized sellers to expand globally.

为什么全球下载最多的购物App冠亚军都在广州?

跨境电商让更多海外消费者被中国制造圈粉。不久前,第三方市场分析机构data.ai发布的《2024移动市场报告》显示,2023年全球购物App下载量前十榜单中,中国电商占据了半壁江山,排名前两位的Shein和Temu都位于广州。

这两家公司是跨境电商中的“狠角色”。data.ai数据显示,2023年已是Shein连续第二年斩获全球购物类App下载量冠军。而Temu的表现也异常凶猛,最新数据显示,Temu在美国的销售额在2023年1月至2024年期间增长了840%。

为何Shein和Temu押宝广州?在业内人士看来,广州在跨境电商发展方面呈现出地理、基础设施、营商环境以及市场优势。

2014年,Shein在广州自建供应链中心。广州产业基础好,产业链从业人员与高校人才聚集,这让希音选择在广州夯实供应链,构建产品竞争力。通过“小单快反”的柔性按需生产模式,走出了中国出海自营品牌独立站的特色之路。

事实上,“押宝”广州的跨境电商企业不止于此。广州培育了唯品会、洋葱、卓志、南沙国际物流园、捷晟物流等一大批优质跨境电商企业。进口规模连续9年位居全国首位的广州,已成跨境电商巨头的必争之地。

相关物流吸纳量大增,体现了跨境电商巨头扩张需求的强劲。第一太平戴维斯今年1月发布的《广州房地产市场2023年回顾与2024年展望》报告显示,广州2023年物流净吸纳量显著反弹至88.3万平方米,约达过去五年年均水平的2.5倍。第一太平戴维华南区市场研究部负责人谢靖宇分析时就表示:“得益于少数知名跨境电商强劲扩张需求的推动。”

为何广州在跨境电商领域发展迅猛?业内人士分析,广州拥有良好的地理优势和交通基础优势,南沙、深圳和香港形成的港口集群,极大便利了广州海运,也方便国际贸易展开;坐拥铁路、机场等交通枢纽以及南沙保税区、白云机场综合保税区等,极大便利了物流、商流的发展。

与此同时,广州拥有深厚的制造业基础,传统制造业在转型过程中,积极拥抱跨境电商。产业带优势,无疑是广州吸引跨境电商的重要因素。

以服装产业为例,在长期的发展过程中,广州逐渐形成了集原材料采购、面料辅料生产、服装设计、加工制造、销售等环节于一体的完整产业链条。

优质雄厚的产业基础成为跨境电商发展的富矿,“跨境电商+产业带”模式,成为新业态和优质供应链的有力结合,也助力众多中小卖家走向世界。
