First Shenzhen-Zhongshan air taxi route expected to open in 2024

As the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge opens for traffic this year, Zhongshan is enhancing its cooperation and integrated development with eastern Pearl River Delta cities like Shenzhen. In terms of transportation integration, in addition to the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, a sea-land connection project, the low-altitude flight across the Pearl River Estuary has also been put on the agenda.

Recently, a delegation from the Shenzhen Low-Altitude Economy Industry Association and Shenzhen Heli-Eastern visited Zhongshan to explore potential collaborations on the infrastructure layout for low-altitude manned flight, route planning, and related industrial development, aiming to launch the first Shenzhen-Zhongshan "air taxi" route in 2024.

Zhao Qi, the president of the Shenzhen Low-Altitude Economy Industry Association and chairman of Shenzhen Heli-Eastern, remarked that urban air transportation is a leading industry in the low-altitude economy. It serves as a symbol of the future, significantly changing the pace of social production and human society. Among them, eVTOL (Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing vehicles) is applied to address the need for efficient logistics and travel between 30 to 300 kilometers. Ithas beencurrently used in cross-border flights, intercity travel, connecting flights, business customization, urban air tours, and emergency rescue, creating a trillion-yuan market potential. Since 2025 marks a critical juncture in the application of electric flight technology, countries around the world have accelerated the establishment of this new industry, while China and Guangdong Province have introduced a series of policies to vigorously promote the development of the low-altitude economy. Zhongshan is thus encouraged to seize these emerging opportunities and design its layout.

It has been revealed that Zhongshan plans to establish fixed take-off and landing sites for helicopters and eVTOLs across the city in short, medium, and long-term phases, providing infrastructure layout and air route planning technical support for low-altitude manned intercity flights, connecting flights, emergency rescues, traffic monitoring, and urban air tours, while catering to future industry development. Additionally, it plans to launch a low-altitude flight route between Shenzhen and Zhongshan in 2024.

首条深中“空中的士”航线有望年内开通

今年是深中通道通车之年,中山正加强与深圳等珠江口东岸城市深度合作、融合发展。在交通一体化方面,除了深中通道这一海陆联通工程,跨珠江口低空飞行也已提上日程。

近日,深圳市低空经济产业协会、深圳市东部通用航空有限公司一行前来中山市考察,就低空载人飞行基础设施布局、航线规划及相关产业发展应用等达成合作意向,年内有望开通首条深中“空中的士”航线。

深圳市低空经济产业协会会长、深圳市东部通用航空有限公司董事长赵麒表示,城市空中交通是低空经济的核心主导性产业,是“未来已来”的标志性象征,正极大地改变着人类社会生产与生活节奏。其中,eVTOL(电动垂直起降飞行器),主要解决30公里到300公里间的高效物流和出行,目前已应用在跨境飞行、城际飞行、联程接驳、商务定制、城市空游、应急救援等领域,带动形成万亿级的巨大增量市场。2025年是电动飞行技术应用的关键节点,全球各地加速布局这一新业态。国家和省出台了一系列政策,大力推动低空经济发展。希望中山抢抓机遇,抓紧谋划布局。

据了解,中山计划在全市范围内按短期、中期、长期规划3批直升机和eVTOL的固定起降点,为低空载人城际飞行、联程接驳、应急救援、交通监测、城市空游等领域提供基础设施布局及航线规划技术支持兼顾后期产业的发展应用,并计划在今年内开通一条深中低空飞行航线。
