Dapanliao Village, located in Raoping County, Chaozhou City, is renowned as the "hometown of flowers and trees" in the surrounding areas, for it serves as an important producer and wholesaler of Chinese New Year flowers. These flowers not only decorate the village but also showcase the beautiful life of the villagers.
Colorful Chinese New Year flowers
Dapandiao Village is like a world of flowers and trees. On one side of the main avenue, there are dozens of lush gardens along the slope. Neatly divided into squares, the gardens plant various types of colorful flower seedlings. The villagers are busy taking care of kumquat trees, Pachira glabra, butterfly orchids, and other seasonal flowers.
With the Spring Festival approaching, many citizens are buying flowers here. Miss. Wang told the reporter that she moved to her new home before the new year, and she wanted to come here to buy suitable flowers to decorate her home as good wishes. The environment of the village is getting better and better. She came for the flowers and took a walk at the same time.
Flower farmers are busy preparing for the "big orders" of the holiday market. Yu Goucai, a flower farmer, has a kumquat garden of over 800 square meters, where the kumquats are growing well. He told reporters that in another two weeks, he would bring over 2,000 pots of kumquats to the flower market.
There are many unique Chinese New Year flowers in the village, which impressed the reporter. Flower farmer Yu Shijie focuses on the shape of potted kumquats. The kumquat branches here are elegant, as pine wood and the kumquats hang like yellow lamps on the branches.
Yu Shijie said, "It takes several years for a potted kumquat to go from planting and cultivation to being on the market. It needs to overcome weather changes and requires careful pruning and training year after year to present the most beautiful posture of the shaped kumquat. The demand for characteristic products is growing, and we are constantly strengthening innovation and cultivation."
Vigorously developing the modern flower industry
It is reported that the flower and wood industry in Dapandiao Village has been continuously developing. The village has transformed from traditional crop cultivation to mainly planting flowers. Currently, the village has a flower planting area of 155 mu, with wholesale and retail sales models. The flowers are mainly sold to surrounding areas such as Meizhou and Shantou, with an annual output value exceeding ten million yuan. Every year, many merchants and tourists come here due to its reputation.
At the entrance of the village, a new eye-catching sign for the "Dapandiao Flower and Wood Market" has been built. It is reported that the local area is taking advantage of the existing flower planting and sales to vigorously develop the modern flower industry. This not only allows tourists to directly enjoy and buy flowers in the fields, but also enables flower farmers to have good harvests and explore sales channels.
Recently, Dapandiao Village was selected as one of the first batches of model villages in the province's High-Quality Development Project for Hundreds of Counties, Thousands of Towns, and Myriads of Villages. The village has been continuously strengthening e-commerce sales, organizing villagers to learn e-commerce knowledge and skills, and promoting floral products through online platforms to expand product sales channels.
At the same time, the village is actively extending its industrial chain and encouraging some villagers to transition from "cultivation and production-oriented" to "market and service-oriented", providing afforestation services for companies and industrial parks.
