As of May 15, lychee customization in Maoming, Guangdong has exceeded 17,000 trees.

As the world's largest lychee producer, Maoming enjoys a lychee cultivation area of over 1.39 million mu (92,666 hectares), churning out over 600,000 tons this year. In Gaozhou (a county-level city) and Dianbai (a district in Maoming), lychees made to order are in full swing, with the sale mode shifting from "by individual fruit, tree or one area" to "by vintage". Lychees have been in high demand before being fully marketed, surpassing the 2022 sales level during the same period.

This year, Maoming held the fourth Lychee& Longan Industry Conference.

Maoming is home to four historical lychee gardens  with clusters. Currently, there are over 350 lychee trees more than 1,000 years old, over 1,000 more than 500 years old and 19,400 more than 100 years old in Maoming.

During each conference, the final transaction price of the picking rights for ancient lychee trees exceeds one million yuan in each auction, showing the cultural accumulation of lychee.

In addition, Maoming actively promotes and expands the application of sulphur fumigation technology, gas-conditioning technology andmodified atmosphere packaging technology (MAP). "One of our key tasks this year is to accelerate the construction of our scientific research platform in the Maoming Branch of Guangdong Laboratory For Lingnan Modern Agricultureso as to build the National Lychee Industry Research Institute." Staff from the bureau of agriculture and rural affairs of Maoming told reporters that the platform will accelerate relevant studies to enhance lychee preservation technology and help lychee marketing.

助“荔”火热 茂名荔枝定制如火如荼

截至5月15日，茂名全市荔枝定制已超1.7万棵。

作为世界最大的荔枝生产基地，茂名市荔枝种植面积超过139万亩，预计今年产量60多万吨。在茂名高州市、电白区，荔枝定制活动开展一浪胜一浪。荔枝销售由“论粒、论棵、论片”向“卖年份荔”定制模式转变。荔枝未大量上市就已受热捧，全面超越去年同期销量。

今年，茂名第四次举办荔枝龙眼产业大会。

茂名保存有成群古荔的种植园4个。目前，茂名全市千年树龄以上荔枝树超过350株，500年以上超过1000株，百年以上达19400株。

每届大会期间，每一场古荔树采摘权拍卖，最后成交价都超过百万元，是荔枝文化沉淀的体现。

此外，茂名市积极推广扩大硫熏技术、气调技术、包装技术的应用。“加快岭南现代农业科学与技术广东省实验室茂名分中心科研平台建设，支持茂名实验室建设‘国家荔枝产业研究院’，这是今年的重点工作之一。”茂名市农业农村局有关工作人员告诉记者，该科研平台将加快研究提升荔枝保鲜技术，助力荔枝营销。
