An elderly woman in Guangzhou suddenly collapsed at a pedestrian crossing in Yuancun. Nearby medical personnel quickly used a shared wheelchair from the hospital to transport the old lady to the emergency department, where she was treated and discharged.
"Hey guys, can you lend me a hand? I'm old and I'm having a bit of trouble supporting her." As the woman collapsed, her husband was unable to support her and called for help. Passersby rushed to check on her and decided to transport her to the nearby Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University.
Despite the hospital being just 200 meters away, most people lacked the medical knowledge to assist the woman without causing further harm.
One young man in a white coat stepped forward and offered to help. " Come on everyone, lend a hand and help out! I'll go get a wheelchair from the emergency department. You stay here with the woman," he said. He quickly sprinted to the hospital and returned with a shared wheelchair.
He and his colleagues then took the woman to the emergency department for examination, staying by her side the whole time.
After a brief examination, the medical personnel determined that the woman had collapsed due to low blood sugar. She stabilized after receiving medical treatment and woke up. The two warmhearted people then escorted the woman and her husband back to their home and left without saying.
Later, the woman's husband expressed his gratitude for the help they received. The two good Samaritans were identified as Liang Wenfeng, a doctoral student, and Zeng Qingzhi, a master's graduate, both from the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University.
"I just wanted to save her. If I could help, I would help. I think it's something we should do," Liang Wenfeng said.
"In my opinion, shared wheelchairs are emergency equipment, and hospital facilities are very useful in critical moments," Zeng Qingzhi added.
In recent years, the hospital has added many convenient facilities, including a popular hollow chair that avoids pain points of patients with rectal diseases, candies prepared for patients with low blood sugar, and special surgical gowns for gynecological endoscopies that don't require frequent changes.
