On November 18th and 19th, the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meetingwill be held in Shenzhen. This will be the third time China has hosted the APEC meeting. From Shanghai in 2001 and Beijing in 2014 to Shenzhen today, these three occasions have charted China's steady progress in opening up to the world, connecting three major growth engines: the Yangtze River Delta, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei regionand the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
As the world undergoes accelerating changes, unilateralism and protectionism are disrupting the global trade and economic order. The more turbulent the waters become, the more important it is to weather the storm together. China is injecting stability into a turbulent world through the certainty of its own development. It continues to expand high-standard opening-upand deepen trade and economic ties with APEC member economies, sharing the benefits of openness to help sustain the vitality of the Asia-Pacific economy.
Holding the meeting in Shenzhen carries profound significance. Rising from a small fishing village into a modern city driven by technological innovation, Shenzhen offers a vivid example of Chinese modernizationin practice. Through openness, innovation and cooperation, the city has nurtured a number of world-class tech enterprisesand consistently ranked among the Chinese mainland's leading cities in foreign trade, demonstrating to the world the benefits of openness and win-win cooperation.
Nearly 300 events have been held across China as part of APEC China Year, delivering a range of early outcomes. The Shenzhen meeting, themed "Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together," will focus on openness, innovation and cooperation, with in-depth discussions on issues including the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific, the digital economyand sustainable development. At this new starting point, China will work with its Asia-Pacific partners to deepen practical cooperation, promote shared regional prosperity and jointly pursuea brighter Asia-Pacific future across mountains and seas.
