The 48th WorldSkills Competition concluded in Shanghai on the evening of September 27th. Seventeen competitors from Guangdong took part in 16 events, winning 13 gold medals, one bronze medal and two Medals for Excellence. Guangdong ranked first nationwide in the number of competitors, events and medals.
CNC Milling was Guangdong's safest bet for a gold medal. Li Zhuoping won the event, securing China's sixth consecutive gold medal in CNC Milling. From the 43rd to the 48th editions, every gold medalist in this event has come from Guangdong Machinery Technician College.

Robot Systems Integration is another event worth highlighting. It became an official event only at the previous WorldSkills Competition, and Guangdong competitors won gold in that same edition. This year, Li Haoyang and Luo Jiewei teamed up to achieve a second consecutive gold.
Joinery, Mechanical Engineering CAD and Industrial Design Technology—traditional strengths for Guangdong—continued to add golds this year. The reason Guangdong keeps producing gold medalists in these events lies not in the competition arena, but in the workshop. The precision standards required in the arena are simply the core benchmarks of daily production for Guangdong's manufacturers.
Seven new events were introduced at this year's WorldSkills Competition, and Guangdong competitors took part in two of them: Software Testing and Digital Interactive Media Design. They won gold in both.
In Software Testing, Lan Duancheng, from Guangzhou Industry and Trade Technician College, won gold. His school led China's proposal to include Software Testing as a WorldSkills event. His gold was the first ever in Software Testing at WorldSkills.
The scale of Guangdong's core AI industry exceeded 300 billion yuan in 2025, growing by more than 40% year on year and accounting for about one-quarter of the national total. The faster the industry grows and the more complex its systems become, the greater the demand for professionals in quality assurance. Lan's gold medal on the WorldSkills stage shows that Guangdong has built up a ready pool of talent for emerging fields.
In Digital Interactive Media Design, Liu Kaiwen, from Guangzhou Communications Technician Institute, also won gold. Guangdong has long been a national leader in the digital creative industry. In 2025, the province's total gaming revenue exceeded 283.6 billion yuan, accounting for 80.8% of the national market. Its overseas revenue exceeded 46.4 billion yuan, ranking first in the country. What Liu trains in is exactly what Guangdong's digital creative industry produces every day.
