From September 22nd to 27th, the 48th WorldSkills Competition (WSC) will be held in the Chinese mainland for the very first time. China is sending 71 competitors to the competition, covering all skills. Since China first took part in the WSC in 2011, competitors from Guangdong have won a total of 35 gold, 16 silver and 14 bronze medals, as well as 26 Medallions for Excellence, with the province ranking first nationwide in both gold medals and total medals.

In 2025, Guangdong established young technician workstations at 53 training bases for the WSC, integrating project development, technical problem-solving, commercialization of results and talent development into a single system. This has gradually turned the gold-medal expertise once concentrated in a small number of training bases into talent development resources accessible to a much wider group.

In Shenzhen's Shuibei, the country's largest gold and jewelry distribution hub, Guo Zhipeng and his team are methodically serving customers seeking customized gold jewelry. In 2018, Guo competed in the Jewellery skill at the 45th WorldSkills Competition, ranking fourth nationwide to enter the national training team. He then ranked second nationwide in the national team's selection to narrow the field from 11 competitors to 5, and was awarded the title of National Technical Expert. In 2021, he and several other top Chinese competitors in Jewellery jointly founded Master Goldsmith Workshop, with the core goal of turning the WSC technical standards, training systems and practical results into a business ecosystem tailored to market needs.

"At the WSC, competitors strive for precision to within 0.1 millimeters. That's the ultimate requirement in a competitive setting. But in the commercial sector, the biggest challenge is not precision, but controlling material loss during gold processing," Guo said. Drawing on his extensive technical experience, he optimized the precision standards and processing methods used in the WSC and developed a material cutting calculation formula suited to the market, bringing the gold processing loss rate below 0.8‰, far lower than the industry average.

广东如何将“金字塔尖”转化为“人才高原”？

2025年，广东依托53个世赛集训基地建设青年技师工作站，把项目研发、技术攻关、成果转化、人才反哺融为一体，让原本集中在少数基地的金牌经验，慢慢变成覆盖面更广的育人资源。

在深圳水贝——全国最大的黄金珠宝集散地，郭志鹏和他的团队正有条不紊地接待着前来定制打金的顾客。2018年，郭志鹏参加第45届世界技能大赛珠宝加工项目，以全国第四的成绩进入国家集训队，又在国家队11进5选拔赛中拿下全国第二，荣获“全国技术能手”称号。2021年，他与多位珠宝加工项目“国手”联合创办“巨匠金工坊”，核心目标便是将世赛的技术标准、训练体系与实践成果，转化为贴合市场需求的商业生态。

“世赛赛场追求0.1毫米级精度，那是竞技层面的极致要求。但是到了商业领域，最大的挑战并非精度，而是黄金加工过程中的损耗控制。”郭志鹏说，凭借丰富的技术经验，他将世赛的精度标准与加工逻辑进行优化，研发出一套适配市场的开料计算公式，使黄金加工损耗率控制在0.8‰以内，远低于行业平均水平。
