On Aug 29th, the new Huanggang Port conducted its fourth large-scale drill with about 20,000 civil servants taking part. The exercise simulated peak passenger flows on a larger scale to test the port's capabilities in inspection, evacuation and traffic management.

During the drill, the Hong Kong Immigration Department fully opened 120 "collaborative inspection" automated channels and 60 traditional manual counters in the arrival and departure halls. When using the automated channels, passengers do not need to queue or complete clearance procedures separately on the two sides. Instead, they can complete immigration clearance procedures for both sides through three gates.
Vehicle clearance was also a key part of the drill. About 300 cross-boundary private cars entered the "One-Stop Joint Services Lanes" equipped with three gates and underwent joint inspection by five departments: Hong Kong Customs, the Department of Health and the Immigration Department, as well as Shenzhen border inspection station and customs authorities. After vehicles reached the information collection point, drivers presented their documents and provided fingerprints while undergoing temperature checks. The gates then opened one after another. The entire process took about one minute.

For public transport, about 300 buses took part in the drill to simulate a large-scale influx of passengers at the port. Four to five buses arrived at the passenger drop-off point at the same time in each batch and left two to three minutes after passengers had disembarked.
Secretary for Security Tang Ping-keung said that some areas still experienced slow Wi-Fi connectivity when passenger flows became concentrated during the test, and the relevant facilities would need further improvement.
Tang Ping-keung added that the HKSAR government would hold further discussions with the Shenzhen side and determine the specific opening date based on the test results.
