China's imports and exports of goods totaled 25.47 trillion yuan in the first half of 2026, up 16.9% year on year. The country's foreign trade in goods exceeded 25 trillion yuan for the first time in any first-half period, increasing by 3.68 trillion yuan from a year earlier.
China's exports have grown by more than 10% so far this year and have now maintained growth for 11 consecutive quarters. For one thing, expanding global demand for computing power, data centers and terminal devices has boosted China's exports of related products. For another thing, as the global green and low-carbon transition continues to gather pace, expanding new-energy development and rising consumer demand are highly compatible with China's strengths in green products. "Made-in-China" products offer preferred solutions for different countries and regions and a wide range of application scenarios. China's stable supply chain is becoming a key hub connecting parties around the world in mutually beneficial cooperation.
China's foreign trade is characterized by large volumes of both imports and exports. The country is not only the world's largest exporter but also its second-largest importer. Imports reached 10.74 trillion yuan in the first half of the year, exceeding 10 trillion yuan for the first time in any first-half period and representing year-on-year growth of 22.1%.
In terms of trading partners, China and ASEAN have remained each other's largest trading partner for many consecutive years. China's trade with ASEAN reached 4.34 trillion yuan in the first half of the year, up 18.2%. Of the total, trade in the second quarter stood at 2.37 trillion yuan, up 20.2% year on year and marking growth for the 10th consecutive quarter. According to Lyu Daliang, spokesperson of the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) and director general of the Department of Statistics and Analysis of the GACC, the continued expansion of bilateral trade reflects the fruitful outcomes of China-ASEAN regional economic integration.
