The 22nd China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF) is being held in Shenzhen from May 21st to 25th. A year ago, Guangdong launched 87 policy measures covering six major sectors: film and television, performing arts, animation, games, e-sports, and online audiovisual. Now, it has delivered impressive results. In 2025, the revenue of Guangdong's enterprises in cultural and related industries above designated size reached 2.77 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.9%, higher than the national average and the average growth rate in eastern China; revenue from new cultural formats reached 1.13 trillion yuan, an increase of 17.6%, and the growth rate in the first quarter of 2026 was 28.9%.

The "ticket stub economy" and "sports event economy" have yielded significant results. Shenzhen, relying on AI ticket stub recognition technology, has provided multi-scenario discounts, boosting cultural tourism consumption by over 20 million yuan in the first quarter of 2026. The ICIF and other exhibitions have implemented a "ticket stub value-added plan," with a single concert driving a 6.75% increase in revenue for surrounding commercial areas and raising hotel occupancy rates to 92.9%.

The service system has been significantly optimized. In 2025, Guangdong engaged with 133 film and television crews, and 105 of them eventually launched in the province. The Guangzhou Micro-Drama Service Center provided services to over 2,400 institutions, and the Film and Television Copyright Trading Center of Shenzhen Culture Assets and Equity Exchangesupported more than 200 companies. Guangdong saw the addition of over 1,100 film and television companies and over 500 gaming and e-sports companies. Leading companies such as Maoyan, Huace, and Enlight Media have established a presence in Guangdong, while miHoYo and Kuaishou have also expressed clear intentions to do so.

The film and television industry saw major breakthroughsacross the board. The film "Dear You," a story centered on "qiaopi" (overseas Chinese remittance letters), grossed over 700 million yuan and scored 9.1 on Douban. "The Sun Rises on Us All" was selected for the Venice Film Festival and won an award. In 2025, Guangdong's box office revenue reached 6.348 billion yuan, ranking first in China for 24 consecutive years. During this year's May Day holiday, Guangdong's box office hit 151 million yuan, accounting for 19.9% of the national total, while attendance stood at 4.208 million, accounting for 20.2% of the national total—both figures are more than double those of Jiangsu, the second-ranked province.

The performing arts market is booming. In 2025, Guangdong's box office revenue from commercial performances reached 6.515 billion yuan. The Guangzhou Opera House set a new record with 135 million yuan in box office revenue, and the Verbier Festivalmade its Asian debut in Shenzhen. Seventeen top artists, including Xue Zhiqian and Zhou Shen, chose Guangzhou as the first stop on their tours.

Animation and film lead the nation. Guangdong accounts for nearly a quarter of China's television animation distribution volume and duration, 50% more than the second-place province. The "Boonie Bears" series has grossed nearly 10 billion yuan and has been distributed to over 120 countries and regions.

The province's leading position in gaming and esports is solidified. In 2025,Guangdong's total gaming industry revenue exceeded 283.6 billion yuan, accounting for 80.8% of the national total, with overseas revenue exceeding 46.4 billion yuan, both ranking first in China. "Naraka: Bladepoint" was selected as anofficial esports event for the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026. Additionally, Guangdong hosted over 20 top-level esports events and launched the Guangdong Esports Super League (GESL), which covers 21 cities across the province.

The online audiovisual sector is seeing rapid growth. The ultra-high-definition video industry has become Guangdong's 10th trillion-yuan-level industrial cluster. The province is home to more than 18,000 companies related to micro-dramas, ranking first in China. Moreover, of the top 20 overseas micro-drama apps by revenue, eight are linked to affiliated companies that operate in Guangdong.
