2026 Guangzhou Art Season kicks off

On May 8th, the opening ceremony of the 2026 Guangzhou Art Season was held at Guangzhou Opera House. Running from May 8th to July 31st, this year's event features nearly 100 outstanding stage productions, dozens of high-quality art exhibitions, and a wide range of public cultural activities.

This year's Guangzhou Art Season features classic productions, renowned artists and prestigious performing groups. The opening ceremony presented the centennial commemorative version of the opera "Turandot," specially directed by Jackie Chan, recipient of the Academy Honorary Award. Other highlights include "Swan Lake"performed by the Moscow State Ballet, and late works by Beethoven and Schubert performed by internationally acclaimed pianist Ronald Brautigam. Featured productions also include "Spring Dawn on the Su Causeway" and "Green Snake" from the National Theatre of China, the dance drama "Xi Shi" with renowned dancer Yang Liping as chief artistic director, and classic Yue Opera productions including "A Dream of Red Mansions" and "The Butterfly Lovers". A host of locally produced works are also staged, such as the classic Cantonese Opera "Princess Changping" and the ballet "Guiyi" rooted in Dunhuang history, further strengthening Guangzhou's reputation for original performing arts productions. In addition to stage performances, this year's art season will present ten high-level exhibitions, including "A Thought of Dunhuang" grand exhibition of cave art, alongside a series of community cultural activities.

The 2026 Guangzhou Art Season will collaborate with more than 18 theaters and nine cultural and museum venues across the city. In addition to major venues such as Guangzhou Opera House and Guangdong Museum, emerging cultural spaces including Haizhu Grand Theater and Huadu Grand Theater have also joined the program, enabling residents to enjoy performances and participate in cultural activities close to home, and truly making the arts accessible to all and allowing cultural resources to be shared across the city.

5月8日,“2026广州艺术季”开幕式在广州大剧院举行。本届广州艺术季活动将从5月8日持续至7月31日,汇聚近百台优秀剧目、数十场高品质艺术大展和惠民艺术普及活动。

本届艺术季,经典剧目、名家名团荟萃。开幕式重磅呈现由奥斯卡金像奖终身成就奖成龙先生跨界执导的歌剧《图兰朵》百年纪念版;有俄罗斯莫斯科芭蕾舞团《天鹅湖》、国际钢琴大师罗纳德·布劳蒂甘演绎晚期贝多芬和舒伯特;有中国国家话剧院的《苏堤春晓》《青蛇》、著名舞蹈家杨丽萍担任艺术总指导的舞剧《西施》、演绎经典的越剧《红楼梦》《梁祝》等。还有一众本土原创剧目,如经典粤剧《帝女花》、取材敦煌历史的芭蕾舞剧《归义》,擦亮广州原创演艺金字招牌。除了剧目展演,本届广州艺术季还推出“一念敦煌”石窟艺术大展等10场高水平展览,配套开展系列公益活动。

本届艺术季合作场馆覆盖超18个剧院、9个文博场馆。除了广州大剧院、广东省博物馆等核心演艺场馆和文博场馆外,还纳入海珠大戏院、花都大剧院等艺术空间新势力,让市民群众在家门口就能欣赏精彩演出、参与丰富活动,真正实现艺术惠民、全域共享。
