From March 27th to April 9th, the opening event of the 2026 Guangdong Art Film Exhibition—the Canada Film Screenings—is being held simultaneously in Shenzhen and Huizhou. The event is organized under the guidance of the Guangdong Provincial Film Bureau, and hosted by the Pearl River Film Group and the Guangdong Film Association. Anchored in the strategic goal of developing the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area(GBA) into an international cultural exchange hub, the exhibition seeks to build bridges through cinema and promote mutual understanding among civilizations.

As the curtain‑raiser for a year-long series of ten film exhibitions, the Canada Film Screenings presents a curated selection of eight outstanding Canadian and Chinese films. The event is accompanied by a series of exchange activities and consumer engagement initiatives, offering audiences in GBA their first cross-cultural cinematic experience. Canadian cinema, distinguished on the world stage by a fusion of diverse cultures, profound humanistic concern, and innovative genre expressions, stands out for its unique voice. Upholding the principle of "benchmarking Canadian and Chinese masterpieces with deep thematic resonance," the exhibition centers on humanistic themes and presents five classic Canadian films alongside three distinguished Chinese works, spanning diverse genres including biography, drama, science fiction, and crime.

The exhibition adopts a model of "premium screenings combined with twin-city exchanges," leveraging the cultural characteristics of Shenzhen and Huizhou to create differentiated viewing and engagement experiences. It also continues Guangdong's recent efforts in cross-sector integration of film, further exploring a consumer linkage model that combines film, business districts, and financial services. As a pilot city for film-driven consumer initiatives, Shenzhen is deepening and extending the film industry, value, and consumption chains. Huizhou, meanwhile, draws on its local cultural tourism and consumption strengths, continuing Guangdong's tradition of film programs for the benefit of the public and creating an immersive "watch, shop, and relax" experience.
