Gambiered Canton Gauze debuts at China Fashion Week

On March 27th, Guangzhou-based designer brand Kimzy Design unveiled its new 2026 collection "ASSEMBLED" at China Fashion Week. The collection features Gambiered Canton Gauze, a Lingnan intangible cultural heritage, as its core material. It interprets traditional craftsmanship through a contemporary design language, charting a path from local artisanal practice into everyday life and from regional culture into the national fashion context.

The designer, observing the nuances of a "fragmentation era," blends materials from diverse contexts, including Gambiered Canton Gauze, lace, denim and leather, to create a multidimensional aesthetic. In terms of silhouette and structure, the "ASSEMBLED" series features clean lines and minimalistic construction, repositioning Gambiered Canton Gauze from a "cultural symbol on display" back into the garment itself to make it a part of everyday wear.

On the technical level, the collection continues to express traditional craftsmanship through a contemporary lens. For instance, paper-cutting patterns are digitally transformed and applied to eco-friendly leather through laser engraving, with the hollowed-out designs coming to life as light and shadow interact. The waterless printing technique further accentuates the texture and luster of Gambiered Canton Gauze, shifting the viewer's experience from mere "seeing" to deeper "sensing."

The inherent "uncertainty" of Gambiered Canton Gauze has also become an aesthetic highlight of the collection. The fabric naturally evolves with wear and over time, while subtle variations in each batch result from factors such as climate, dyeing and finishing techniques. These differences are not flaws but rather a way of recording the passage of time and the influence of nature.

Through its presentation and promotion at China Fashion Week, a major cultural platform, the integration of Lingnan intangible cultural heritage with contemporary design has reached a wider audience. It also allows materials and craftsmanship from Lingnan to be reinterpreted within increasingly complex cultural contexts.

  • 'Blue lanes' go viral! Why does Qingyuan keep making headlines?
Recently, eye-catching "blue lanes" at the intersection near the Fengcheng Shijia residential community in Qingcheng District, Qingyuan, have gone viral online. Running parallel to the crosswalk, the lanes are designated exclusively for e-bikes and bicycles. They are part of a new traffic-management model introduced by Qingyuan police: pedestrians use the central crosswalk, while non-motor vehicles pass through the "blue lanes" on either side, separating pedestrians from non-motorized vehicles and keeping each in its designated route.
