The 2026 Chinese New Year holiday has come to a close. According to preliminary estimates, during the nine-day holiday (February 15th to 23rd), Guangdong Province received 86.589 million tourist visits, up 8.1% compared with the eight-day holiday during the 2025 Chinese New Year. Tourism revenue reached 84.89 billion yuan, a 13.9% year-on-year increase.

Centered on the theme "Celebrate the Chinese New Year in Guangdong", the province rolled out a series of cultural and tourism measures to benefit the public. A total of 20 million yuan in cultural and tourism consumption vouchers were distributed across Guangdong. Guangdong also introduced an innovative "ticket-stub economy" initiative, under which visitors presenting transportation or performance ticket stubs could enjoy discounts at more than 380 accommodation providers and over 200 tourist attractions across the province. Meanwhile, version 2.0 of the "Happy Tour in Guangdong" Cultural and Tourism Map was launched, and China's first provincial-level official cultural and tourism ranking was released, further enhancing digital service capabilities.

Lingnan culture drew widespread attention during the holiday. Intangible cultural heritage items such as Cantonese opera, Yingge dance, and Chaozhou embroidery were featured on the China Media Group's 2026 Spring Festival Gala and other programs about intangible cultural heritage. Performances were also staged in Russia and Spain as part of the "Happy Chinese New Year" celebrations. Spain also issued a commemorative stamp themed on the Yingge dance, which showcases the growing international reach of Lingnan culture.

Highlights of the "tourism plus" integrated industry are plentiful: film and television shooting locations in Shenzhen, cultural and tourism performances in Heyuan, check-in travel routes in Zhongshan, the sports events economy in Zhanjiang, and leisure markets in Maoming proved popular among visitors. Technology-driven cultural programs, including the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Lantern Festival, drone light shows, interactive robot dog displays, and firework displays, were staged across Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Dongguan, Shantou, and other cities, offering immersive experiences that were well received.

Tourist attractions across the province continued to improve service quality and diversify offerings. Destinations such as Window of the World in Shenzhen, Danxia Mountain in Shaoguan, and Gulao Water Town in Jiangmen introduced immersive activities, intangible cultural heritage performances, and fireworks shows.
