According to the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province, on the 8th day of the 2026 Chinese New Year holiday, scenic spots with a rating of 4A and above across Guangdong received 3.256 million visitors, a year-on-year increase of 5.2%, with all kinds of cultural and tourism scenes remaining popular. Throughout this holiday, Guangdong has centered its tourism initiatives on intangible cultural heritage, empowered by advanced technology to create an immersive "Year of Culture," while simultaneously stimulating consumption potential and unleashing new momentum from the integration of culture and tourism.

Intangible cultural heritage and folk customs were the core highlights of this Chinese New Year's cultural tourism. Meizhou integrated its Chinese New Year Lantern Fair with the national-level intangible cultural heritage "Fire Dragon Dance" and the provincial-level intangible cultural heritage "Floral-Decorated Dragon Lanterns." Shantou gathered 20 Yingge dance teams for a grand carnival, coordinating parades featuring Lion Dance and Buma Dance. Chaozhou showcased the charm of intangible cultural heritage through a thousand-drone light show, with the Guangji Bridge seeing a record-high single-day tourist volume exceeding 20,000. Additionally, events like the immersive live role-playing (NPC)markets in Zhongshan and the interactive intangible cultural heritage parades in Heyuan allowed Lingnan's cultural heritage to be passed down through immersive experiences. Cultural art museums also received high praise for their folk custom exhibitions and hands-on craft activities.

Technological empowerment injected new vitality into the cultural tourism experience. In Dongguan Central Square, robot dogs adorned with Lion Dance decorations performed alongside human lion dance teams. The Greater Bay Area Lantern Carnival held in Nansha District, Guangzhou, with a cyber style, introduced a robotic horse VR interactive project, allowing visitors to ride "robotic horses" through light and shadow scenes. Shenzhen capitalized on the popularity of films to launch a "China Travel with Chinese Films" themed route. Hengqin Chimelong created a "Whale" of a New Year experience by integrating marine ecology with international art through technological presentations.

Meanwhile, Guangdong distributed 20 million yuan in cultural and tourism consumption vouchers, introduced ticket-stub discounts and digital guidance services, with various regions offering complementary consumption subsidies to activate the market. The nighttime economy continued to thrive, with lantern fairs and holographic water-screen projection shows in multiple cities illuminating the Chinese New Year and effectively boosting consumption. This holiday season, Guangdong showcased the mutual reinforcement of intangible cultural heritage inheritance and technological innovation, highlighting the profound cultural heritage of Lingnan while demonstrating the high-quality development achievements of cultural-tourism integration.
