Shenzhen's Kunpeng Trail No.1 Bridge praised by Chinese foreign ministry

Shenzhen has once again become a trending topic thanks to an eco-bridge. On February 3rd, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian praised Shenzhen's Kunpeng Trail No.1 Bridge on an international social media platform, showcasing to the world a vivid practice of harmonious coexistence between man and nature in the city.

In early 2024, Kunpeng Trail No.1 Bridge, China's first wildlife-human separation eco-bridge, was officially put into operation. Spanning the Meiguan Expressway, it connects Yinhu Mountain and Meilin Mountain. Large areas of native vegetation are planted on the bridge deck, creating safe migration corridors for wild animals such as leopard cats and macaques, and effectively restoring the mountain ecology fragmented by the expressway. Since then, Kunpeng Trail No.2 and No.3 Bridges have been completed successively, crossing major urban traffic arteries and key regional hubs. They prioritize ecological space for wild animals, weaving a dense urban ecological connectivity network.

As a megacity with land development intensity approaching 50% and scarce land resources, Shenzhen's "concessions" for ecology are not a publicity stunt, but a long-term development philosophy. The city has launched many thoughtful initiatives beyond conventional practices: pet-friendly buses have been put into operation; large screens on the subway display adoption information for stray animals; technology companies have pasted wave-point stickers on buildings to prevent bird collisions, guarding living creatures with small but meaningful actions.

Investment in ecological conservation has brought rich natural returns. Shenzhen covers only one five-thousandth of China's total land area, yet it is home to one-fourth of the country's bird species, with 100,000 migratory birds wintering here every year. Meanwhile, Shenzhen's green and low-carbon industries are booming. In 2024, the added value of the industry reached 243.92 billion yuan, achieving a win-win situation between ecological environment and economic development, and setting an example for cities in pursuing harmonious coexistence between man and nature.
