At the expansive carrot planting base in Pinghu New Village, Jingdu Town, Chaonan District, Shantou, dozens of farmers are busy sorting freshly harvested carrots. These bright-colored, plump carrots, once neatly stacked, will be shipped to overseas markets through the customs "green channel".

Pinghu New Village, a specialized vegetable village in Guangdong Province, has been designated a provincial-level model village by Jingdu Town. Relying on its vegetable planting and breeding bases, the village has promoted modern planting techniques and constructed hardened irrigation and drainage canal networks. By focusing on specialty crops such as carrots, sweet potatoes, and green onions, it has become an important vegetable base in Shantou. These small carrots have not only boosted farmers' incomes but also become a vivid example of rural industrial revitalization in Jingdu Town, supported by the integration of media and agriculture in Chaonan District.
Currently, Chaonan District has yielded notable results in building agricultural brands. The district now boasts three National Famous, Special, High-quality and New Agricultural Products, 18 "Zhenpin (Shenzhen quality food)" certified products, and three provincial-level "Yue Zi Hao" agricultural brands. Additionally, 11 lychee planting bases have been selected for the 2025 Guangdong Lychee Procurement Map. Local brands such as "Changhe Sweet Potato" and "Tingshun Pickled Vegetable" enjoy prominence nationwide, while regional specialties featuring "Chaonan Flavors" such as Dongyan rice cakes and Shalong fish balls have successfully entered markets across the seas.
According to Ke Junping, director of the Department of Enterprise Management and Audit-Based Control at Chaoyang Customs, there are currently 22 planting and breeding bases in Chaonan covering a total area of 25,490 mu. Agricultural products such as carrots, green onions, and whiteleg shrimp are already being exported to multiple Asian countries and regions, including South Korea. Customs authorities are also closely coordinating with businesses to communicate the latest importing-country regulations on pesticide maximum residue limits and quarantine and phytosanitary requirements promptly, helping enterprises proactively mitigate trade risks and safeguard the expansion of specialty agricultural products into international markets.
