On January 8th, 2026, the book "Mission in the Snowfield: A Visual History of Artists Commissioned by the CCCPC to Xizang in 1965 (Snowfield Mission)" made its debut at the 2026 Beijing Book Fair.It is reported that a special exhibition based on the book, titled "Mission in the Snowfield: A Visual History of Artists Commissioned by the CCCPC to Xizang in 1965," is scheduled to open in the first half of 2026 at the National Art Museum of China.

When the Xizang Autonomous Region was established in 1965, seven outstanding young painters, including Niu Wen, Li Huanmin, Qijia Dawa, Yao Gengyun, Liu Jirong, Du Yingxin, and Liang Shixiong, set out for the snow-covered plateau. During their stay in Xizang, they produced thousands of sketches, took more than 2,000 photographs, and wrote over 100,000 words of journals. With the official publication of the "Snowfield Mission," this precious chapter of national memory and artistic history is now presented to the public in its entirety.

"My father once said that life in Xizang shaped the dominant theme of his artistic career," said Liu Sidong, son of artist Liu Jirong and president of the Guangzhou Artists Association. He noted that many of Liu Jirong's works can be traced back to the sketches and studies he made during his time in Xizang. "Both Liu Jirong and Liang Shixiong, who were from Guangdong, are important inheritors of the Lingnan School of Painting. They carried forward and enriched the school's artistic spirit of deeply engaging with lived experience and responding to their era through their brushwork, expanding the Lingnan tradition into a bold new landscape that expresses the deep emotional bonds between Guangdong and Xizang."

《雪域使命》在京首发，专题特展将于中国美术馆举办

2026年1月8日，《雪域使命：1965年中央委派艺术家入藏图像史》（以下简称《雪域使命》）在2026北京图书订货会上举办首发式。据悉，以《雪域使命》为基础的“雪域使命——1965年中央委派艺术家入藏图像史特展”，计划于2026年上半年在中国美术馆隆重举行。

1965年西藏自治区成立之际，牛文、李焕民、其加达瓦、姚耕云、刘济荣、杜英信、梁世雄七位杰出青年画家奔赴雪域高原，创作数千幅速写、拍摄两千余张照片、撰写十余万字手记。《雪域使命》正式出版，将这份珍贵的国家记忆与艺术史诗完整呈现于公众面前。

“父亲生前曾说，西藏的生活确立了他一生创作的主导题材。”艺术家刘济荣之子、广州市美术家协会主席刘思东表示，刘济荣众多作品的创作源头，可以追溯至其入藏所画的速写与草图。“来自广东的刘济荣、梁世雄均为岭南画派重要传人，他们传承光大岭南画派深入生活、笔随时代的艺术精神，开拓了岭南画派的雄浑面貌，绘就粤藏山海之情。”
