On December 31st, 2025, the total passenger volume across the Guangzhou Metro network reached 14.093 million, setting a new record for both the Guangzhou Metro and metro systems in China. In 2025, the average daily passenger volume of Guangzhou Metro was 9.312 million, a year-on-year increase of 4.9%, also marking a historical high, demonstrating the vibrant energy of the millennium commercial capital and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

The record was driven by the continuous expansion of the rail transit network. In 2025, Guangzhou Metro entered a period of intensive new line openings, launching six new metro lines (or sections) and three intercity rail sections throughout the year, pushing the network's operational length to over 779 kilometers, firmly ranking in the top three nationwide. By the end of June, sections of Line 10 and Line 12 were opened, enhancing the "ring-shaped, cross-shaped, and X-shaped" rail transit network structure. By the end of September, the first sections of Phase II of Line 13 and Phase II of Line 14 were put into service, improving travel convenience for residents in eastern Guangzhou and Baiyun District. By the end of December, the latter section of Line 22, with a speed of 160 km/h, was put into operation, reducing the travel time from Bai'etan to Guangzhou South Railway Station to 17 minutes, facilitating the integration of Guangzhou and Foshan.

The deep integration of the "one network, one ticket" system between Guangzhou and Foshan has made cross-city travel more convenient. The massive cross-city passenger volume has become a key support for the record-breaking ridership, further confirming the accelerating formation of the "rail-based living circle" in the GBA.

The surge in passenger volume also vividly reflects the vitality of urban consumption. In 2025, Guangzhou's economy continued to grow steadily. From January to November, the cultural and arts sector and the sports industry saw revenue increases of 17.0% and 11.0%, respectively, while travel agency services and leisure tourism activities grew by 9.3% and 7.1%, respectively. The integration of culture, commerce, and tourism has been a key driver, injecting continuous momentum into the city's development.
