Since September this year, three medical specialists from Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital have arrived in Suva, Fiji. They are: Director of Spine Surgery Department Chang Yunbing, Cardiology Attending Physician Luo Songyuan, and Endocrinology Attending Physician Wang Long. They are expected to carry out a three-month medical aid mission here.

Luo told reporters that as early as 2017, Guangdong launched a short-term medical aid program stationed in Fiji. By 2019, Guangdong had sent four groups of experts with a total of 12 members to Fiji to provide on-site technical support and training. However, the program was temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Luo and his colleagues became the first group of doctors to come to Fiji after the program resumed. The team quickly discovered that many of the local doctors they had previously worked with had either left the public healthcare system or been transferred to other positions, so some people were "out of contact." Luo added that during the first week, they fired off many emails but got no response, so they felt as though they were stranded on a deserted island.

They voluntarily visited the Navua Hospital, which was built with China's assistance, participating in clinical consultations and ward rounds. Starting from individual cases, they gradually established working relationships with local doctors. As surgical cooperation increased, the local physicians began to understand and trust them, leading to the development of several joint surgical programs. For example, under Luo's promotion, the team successfully performed the first emergency coronary intervention procedure for an acute myocardial infarction patient in recent years.

Luo said that three months is actually very short, so the three of them hope to see as many patients as possible and perform as many surgeries as they can. Most importantly, they hope to leave behind something that can't be taken away.

今年9月起，斐济苏瓦来了三位来自广东省人民医院的医疗专家，他们分别是脊柱外科主任昌耘冰、心内科主治医师罗淞元和内分泌科主治医师王龙。他们计划在这里开展为期三个月的医援工作。

罗淞元告诉记者，早在2017年，广东便启动了驻斐济短期医疗援助项目，到2019年，广东共派出四批专家组共12人赴斐济开展驻点技术帮扶和培训工作。后受新冠疫情影响，项目一度暂停。

罗淞元一行成了项目恢复后来斐的首批医生。团队很快发现，原本对接过的本地医生有的已离开公立系统，有的调岗，由此导致了部分“失联”。“第一周发出多封邮件都石沉大海，我们几人简直有身处荒岛的错觉。”

他们主动来到中国援建的纳乌瓦医院，参与会诊、查房，从具体病例开始，渐渐与本地医生建立起工作联系。随着手术合作的增加，当地医生逐渐了解并信任了他们，开拓了一些共同的操作项目。例如，在罗淞元的推动下，当地成功在一名急性心梗患者身上，完成了近年来首例急诊冠脉介入手术。

“三个月时间其实很短。我们三个都希望尽可能多看一个病人、多做一台手术。最重要的，则是希望留下一些‘带不走的东西’。”罗淞元说。
