Shereen, who has worked for more than 20 years at the Ophthalmology Center of the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Fiji, has witnessed a decade of medical cooperation carried out locally by the "Bright Journey" medical team from Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC) of Sun Yat-sen University. She has deeply felt the benefits that doctors from Guangdong have brought to local residents.

Recently, the medical team from ZOC traveled to Fiji, providing consultations, screenings, and cataract surgeries for local patients at the Ophthalmology Center of the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.

"We always feel empowered. We always feel like a team. The doctors from Guangdong are willing to teach us, support the medical staff and patients, and help meet local healthcare needs." Shereen, who has worked at the hospital since 2000, added frankly, "We were trained to perform manual small-incision cataract surgery, and I am still doing this procedure today. The Guangdong medical team performs phacoemulsification cataract surgery, which is one step ahead. We have stayed in touch with the Guangdong doctors. Whenever we encounter work-related problems or need to discuss cases, we can always turn to them. Their superb medical skills have impressed us."

In her eyes, Professor Chen Weirong from the Cataract Department of ZOC has always been her idol. She has repeatedly expressed her wish to become Professor Chen's student, saying, "If I have another chance to study in Guangdong, that would be wonderful. This way, patients wouldn't have to wait a whole year until the Guangdong medical team arrives to have surgery."

It is better to teach skills than to give assistance. According to the ZOC medical team, hospitals in Fiji are eager to send students to China to learn ophthalmic surgical techniques. Once they return from their training, they will be able to serve their communities more effectively.

希恩（Shereen）在斐济殖民战争纪念医院眼科中心工作二十多年，她见证了中山大学中山眼科中心“光明行”团队在当地开展医疗合作的十年，深刻感受到广东医生为当地居民带来的福音。

近期，中山大学中山眼科中心“光明行”团队前往斐济，在殖民战争纪念医院眼科中心为当地患者看诊筛查、开展白内障手术。

“我们总觉得被赋予力量，我们总是像一个团队。广东医生很愿意教我们，帮助医护和患者，满足当地的医疗需求。”希恩从2000年起就在这家医院工作。她坦诚地说：“我们被培训的是小切口白内障手术，我至今仍在做这种手术。广东医疗队做的超声乳化手术是领先一步的。我们一直和广东医生保持联系，工作上的问题、讨论病例都能找他们帮忙，见识了他们精湛的医术。”

在她眼里，中山眼科中心白内障科陈伟蓉教授一直是她的“偶像”。她不止一次向陈伟蓉表达，非常希望能成为陈伟蓉的徒弟：“如果以后还有机会去广东学习，那就太好了。这样病人就不必等上一年，等广东医疗队来了才能做手术。”

授人以鱼不如授人以渔。中山眼科中心医疗队告诉记者，斐济当地医院十分希望能够输出这些学生，到中国学习眼科手术操作。当他们学习回来的时候，能更好地服务他们的民众。
