On October 19th, the opening seminar of "Reform Mission: Guangdong Art Centennial Exhibition" was held at the Shanghai Art Museum (China Art Museum). More than 30 art theorists and artists from across the country, including Guangdong and Shanghai, engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions on two major topics, namely "Modern and Contemporary Chinese Fine Arts and Guangdong's Practice" and "Regional Interaction and Historical Narratives in Guangdong's Modern and Contemporary Art."
"Guangdong Art Centennial Exhibition is a rich cultural gift to the people of Shanghai, while also allowing both Chinese and international visitors in Shanghai to witness China's cultural and historical journey over the past century," said Li Lei, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Artists Association, Professor at the Shanghai Theatre Academy, and Director of the Shanghai Haipai Art Museum. "This is a phenomenal cultural event, which not only showcases a century of Guangdong fine arts but also inspires Shanghai to reflect on its own past century."

Wang Yichuan, Party Secretary and Executive Director of the Shanghai Art Museum, revealed on site that the Guangdong Art Centennial Exhibition was just the beginning. In the future, an Art Walk route featuring Guangdong artists in Shanghai will also be created, revitalizing historic sites where masters like Lin Fengmian and Gao Jianfu once worked and lived. By integrating culture and tourism, the initiative aims to bring more ordinary citizens closer to these artistic masters.
"Since the 1980s, Guangdong's contemporary art has developed with a strong regional character in its art and experiment in Southern China, leading the nation," noted Li Xu, Director of the Theory and Curation Committee of the Shanghai Artists Association and Professor at the Shanghai Theatre Academy. "Beyond contemporary art, Guangdong has also taken the lead in museum development nationwide. When other cities were still lagging, Guangzhou and Shenzhen had already established six art museums, setting an exemplary model for the entire country."
